My wife and I dine here frequently. I have never had a bad meal here, and the food is consistently awesome. The owners are very nice, and the service is impeccable. Even on the all you can eat pasta night, the service never suffers. Their meatballs are the best around. What's also nice is that they are open late every night. My wife works until 9pm, so when we get a craving for Italian, we make a bee line for Mario The Baker. Also if you are on a budget, it's hard to find a pasta, baked dish, or meat dish that's over 10 bucks, and that includes a side of pasta and garlic rolls (which are awesome !!). I'm sorry to hear that the previous poster got sick there. I assure you that is not the norm there.
Until January 21, 2009, I would have to give Mario the Baker a resounding five stars.
However, on that Wednesday evening, I dined at Mario's with a colleague, expecting the same excellent dining and service, And I thought that I had received that, until about 1:00 AM the next morning, when I woke up and remained awake with stomach pain. Within several hours, I experienced violent projectile vomiting and frequent diarrhea at 7:00 AM.
At around 7:20 AM, I received a call from my colleague who had dined with me; he had been suffering several episodes of vomiting and diarrhea since 9:00 PM on the 21st, and said that he had not called earlier, because he did not want to wake me up if I were sleeping.
We both had the sausage meatball parmagian with a side of ziti (otherwise a fabulous dish).
It is now 4:00 PM, January 23, 2009, and I am just starting to recover.
I hope for business sake at Mario's, that this was, somehow, an isolated incident.
I have noticed since the economy has declined (to save money or because good help is not available), that restaurants seem to be hiring food handlers who do not portray that they have a healthy respect for hygiene. Mario the Baker may have gotten caught in that fray, and it is a shame.
I will miss Mario's great service, congenial atmosphere and wonderful tasting food. In fact, I will be staying away from restaurants as much as possible, because I do not like playing Russian roulette with my health.
I can not say enough about this place. The family that owns this....Perfect. They are always so nice and always remember you by your first name. Since we come here for all of our pizza (Not kidding over 100 pizzas so far)
They know our entire family so well. When we come, we come in herds (over 20 of us) and they get us seated fast.
If they read this post - They know who is the craziest person that comes in there and makes them laugh all of the time and gets a beer waiting for take-out pizza.
Great Job !!
Inexpensive place, good food (pizza and rolls), have not tried pasta dishes as they looked bland. Prices are good, $2 off pizza on Mondays, and best thing about it is these Garlic Rolls ($3.50/dozen) that are so delicious and addictive. I have heard about bad serivce from other reviews and even some of my friends, have not experienced it myself. I think its still a good value in Royal Palm.
I use to go here often some years ago I moved and now that I am back and live closa by I was soooo happy to have them so close to me but oh no , bad servive, tables dirty and the worst... pizza not so good, sauce tooo sweet and runny cheese too sticky and gummy and just not good anymore , whaen things change back i would like to know.
We were frequent patrons as they are not far and do provide a quick and fairly inexpensive meal. However, recently a trainee dumped an entire cup of soda on someone in my party, not the end of the world...accidents do happen. However, they still gave us a bill. They just ruined about $60+ worth of clothes and it never occurred to them that charging us for the meal might be wrong. Only after complaining to a manager did the bill disappear(and even the manager was reluctant to do the right thing). Also, we noticed on the bill that they were overcharging us anyway....by quite a bit!!! So, I don't believe they care alot about customer service. Therefore, going forward, I will spend a little more money elsewhere and be taken care of properly.
