Until January 21, 2009, I would have to give Mario the Baker a resounding five stars.
However, on that Wednesday evening, I dined at Mario's with a colleague, expecting the same excellent dining and service, And I thought that I had received that, until about 1:00 AM the next morning, when I woke up and remained awake with stomach pain. Within several hours, I experienced violent projectile vomiting and frequent diarrhea at 7:00 AM.
At around 7:20 AM, I received a call from my colleague who had dined with me; he had been suffering several episodes of vomiting and diarrhea since 9:00 PM on the 21st, and said that he had not called earlier, because he did not want to wake me up if I were sleeping.
We both had the sausage meatball parmagian with a side of ziti (otherwise a fabulous dish).
It is now 4:00 PM, January 23, 2009, and I am just starting to recover.
I hope for business sake at Mario's, that this was, somehow, an isolated incident.
I have noticed since the economy has declined (to save money or because good help is not available), that restaurants seem to be hiring food handlers who do not portray that they have a healthy respect for hygiene. Mario the Baker may have gotten caught in that fray, and it is a shame.
I will miss Mario's great service, congenial atmosphere and wonderful tasting food. In fact, I will be staying away from restaurants as much as possible, because I do not like playing Russian roulette with my health.
