Tom Jenkins Bar-B-Q
First founded as a roadside shack in 1990, Tom Jenkins Bar-B-Q developed a loyal following that followed them across the street when a neighboring restaurant space became available. The menu is fairly bare bones, diners allowed to chose between a number of different preparations for the pork, beef and chicken available. There are a decent selection of sides available, but the true barbecue aficionados will opt for the space saving "meat only" menu in which the sides are omitted and the prices a tad lower. An authentic barbecue shack with a solid foundation of local love, Tom Jenkins Bar-B-Q is an experience that can't be missed in Fort Lauderdale.
I m not big on food that s barbecue but this place is delicious. I have visited Tom s at least three times this year and I can t wait for my next visit. I love the collard greens, mac and cheese and the cornbread muffins are to die for. I will be catering food from them this weekend and I can t wait to see how much my guest enjoy their food. Thanks Tom Jenkins for the opportunity of some good old BBQ!!!
Jenkins is a solid choice, good sauce and good selection of meats and sides. The best BBQ I have found in South Florida however and have been going to for 15 years religiously is Mississippi Sweets in Boca. I you haven't tried it give it a shot!
After hearing so many good things about Tom Jenkins', I had to try it. I was pretty disappointed. I ordered the chopped pork sandwich platter with beans and french fries. I will say that the portions are pretty good for the price. Though the food was pretty bad. The pork was way overcooked and so dry to the point that much of it was rock hard. The fries were dry. The beans were nothing special and had too much sauce and not enough beans. Also, their sauce is nothing special.
If there was actually a decent BBQ place in south florida, then this place would be out of business. But since there isn't, the place is booming.
I prefer Jack's to this place, but I don't think Jack's is all that great either. At least I've never received dry pulled pork at Jack's.
