Mrs. Mendoza's, this modest-looking Mexican spot is one of the best places in Miami for fabulous chips and salsa, not to mention tasty south-of-the-border favorites. Help yourself out of the communal bowls of salsa; you will be glad to go back for more. Super-fresh Mexican favorites are served, including delicious fajitas and tacos. Tostadas are enormous; no matter how hard you try, you probably will not be able to finish one. This is an unassuming little place with a casual local crowd.
I went to Mrs. Mendoza's in Coronado this evening and was served a very skimpy, 'large' chicago style chicken burrito. It was presented on an iron fajita platter sitting atop a piece of waxed paper with a few carelessly placed tortilla chips The waiter had to be reminded to bring the accompanying chips and pico de gallo (the best dish here), and only did so after my entre had already been served,
MM's used to be a fairly classy place with quite good and reasonably sized portions, but has in my opinion, rapidly gone downhill while the prices have skyrocketed. I didn't feel that I got my money's worth, and probably won't go back.
3 new Mrs. Mendoza's have opened up down here in Panama City (Republic of Panama) and the food is pretty horrible as well. The only saving grace is the FREE MARGARITA business/advertisement cards you can pick up at the airport and hotels.
The people go crazy for the open salsa bar, which is basically pico de gallo in different color combinations. Picante and spices are frowned upon in Panamanian cuisine in general, so everything is fried for flavor including breads. It might explain the success of the restaurants down here and the expanding waste lines.
Food was horrible, pre pre pre cooked meat and chips that tasted horrible. Place used to be one of the best in Doral, very busy. When I went it was empty I wonder why? Not only that prices have gone up 100% since the restaurant was actually good
It was small and cozy and the service was typical, not bad but not good either. The food was at times tasteless, first few bites were good due to the fact that I was starving. The beef was very fatty and overcooked. I didn't pay much and I got what I paid for!
