Tap Tap offers a slice of Caribbean life. Murals on the walls, Haitian music, and authentic Haitian food make this a popular destination for the young, artistic crowd. Meat and fish dishes are grilled over hardwood charcoal for a distinctly different flavor. Try the shrimp cooked in coconut sauce. The house specialty is Stewed Goat, not something for squeamish eaters. Watermelon soda is a creative alternative to the average soft drink.
I have always enjoyed the food here but the service is not only S-L-O-W, it is rather rude and unorganized. The last two visits have resulted in being served by a sassy waiter who is unattentive and glares us when we ask for the obvious requests, like ordering our food. I understand the long wait but teh poor service has me ready to look for a new local pleasure.
Not only does Tap Tap Restaurant give you a taste of Haitian Cuisine, but it also gives you a look into Haitian Culture. This retaurant really shows Haitian Art. Not only is it visible by the murals on the walls but also the hand crafted tables and chairs that everyone sits on. On particular nights, customers can enjoy Haitian music that is brought by a live Haitian band. Whether you are meeting up with some friends, have a dinner party or celebrating someone's birthday, the staff at Tap Tap can accomondate you.
Once you step outside, you can see the real Tap Tap.....which is the bus that they use back in Haiti. Pictures can be taken of it as well as sitting inside of the bus.
Tap Tap is truely an experience worth taken!
I am a haitian woman and I have to admit the cuisine and atmosphere is wonderful at Tap-Tao is wonderful. Its like being back in Haiti. I really enjoy this place and I come back frequently as well as with friends and family. The art on the walls are superb and realistic. You can really get a feel for the island by just looking at the artwork.
This restaurant is overrated. It is not that bad but I have seen better and better food. It is just a nice location. Try Nuvo Kafe on 13152 W Dixie Hwy or Patissiere on 14005 W Dixie Hwy for now There so many other places...
