While a new and much-hyped restaurant opens up in trendy South Beach almost every week, few have as many things going for them as this wildly popular cafe. Located on charming Espanola Way, this restaurant is in prime people-watching territory. While the street is not as determinedly trendy as Ocean Drive, the bohemian factor makes it almost more interesting and definitely more comfortable. Classic trattoria fare is what you are going to get here. Wood-fired pizzas, inexpensive pastas and hearty sandwiches are all good choices.
We were excited to see oysters advertised on the window so we gave them a try. We love oysters but we had to send these back. They were huge, chewy, tasteless, and full of shell. The waitress was very nice but very slow. Rowdy locals seem to hang out at this spot and while we were sitting outside one of them threw his empty glass of beer across the street at two girls walking by. Then he treatened to kill her. Long story short, the manager and the other patrons helped the guy get away before the cops could arrest him. Absolutely crazy!
Food was very good and service was excellant. Prices (especially for the wine) were a bit expensive, but you're paying extra for the atmosphere (sidewalk seating on a pedestrian only street). Great street show to watch on a Saturday evening!
I personally love the food and the people watching at Hosteria Romana granted I am biased I fully admit they know me well there they get me in even the place is booked solid don't expect the same treatment like I said they know me there, but that aside the food really is good this is coming from a picky Italian eater! Personal favorite!
Gnocchi Aurora preparati n` sarsa rosa e cremosa
It's the best!
I decided to go Hosteria Romana today sunday and this is the first time i feel that i have been robbed by a restaurant. I live in Miami and feel that this restaurant survives on ripping off all the tourist that visit our city. This is why a lot of people complain about South Beach. I got a small orange juice from a can for $6.00 and ordered a pizza capricciosa which has 1 slice of prosciutto 3 olives 5 mushrooms and 2 artichoke for $17.00 dollars, a total ripoff!!!!! i was wondering why these reataurant had no bussiness on a sunday at 12:00 mid-day, when i left i came to the understanding that no locoal person goes there because it's such a ripoff, i would not recommend this place at all. save your money and go to the cafes like news cafe, you'll wait a liitle bit to be seated but it's worth it!!!! believe me.............
