I been going there since 1992 when I first came to Miami from NY. I love the Canton steak that sizzles. I usually get the large one and share it with my wife and order the special fried rice, my son goes for the sushi (actually the california rollls and avocado rolls) and since he loves shrimp I also get him the fried shrimp tempura. My daughter orders a dish with noodles, vegetables, and chicken. We tell them to make it spicy. I think its a special Lo-mein dish? As far as drinks I usually order sprite for the kids and I drink the louse tea. Today is Thanksgiving and I didnt want my wife cooking traditionally like every year so I was surprising her and the kids and taking them there. I left kendall in 1997 and moved to Silverlakes, Pembroke Pines and travel as often and possible to eat at this restaurant. I always use the same lady waitress. The moment is priceless and food is great.
The first time I found Canton and the Famous Canton Steak was in 1981. What I found was revolutionary in Chinese cuisine, at the time. I continued to enjoy this restaurant for many years, until a change of address made it impossible. Before leaving the area in 2003, I had my last fix and went on my way. I recently returned to the area and wanted to get back to what used to be my favorite Chinese restaurant in Miami. As I always have, I ordered the Canton steak and much to my surprise found one of the toughest most disappointing meals, I've had in many years. This famous steak is supposed to come with Chinese vegetables. Since when are zucchini and carrots, Chinese vegetables? The sauce which had always been a very tasty brown Cantonese sauce was rather tasteless and it was more grey in color than brown, not to mention the enormous amount of gristle, which was also a first. The special fried rice, which was one of the most impressive in town was also tasteless and it may have something to do with the fact that they don't even offer normal soy sauce, only the light version. They no longer offer white pepper only black. This restaurant which was almost impossible to get into due to the line outside was remarkably empty and for good reason. After 30 years, this restaurant isn't even the shadow of what it used to be. Unfortunately and with much regret, I report to you that it is barely up to the quality of a low end buffet. How sad for those of us who loved the place. Sadly, this will be the last time I go. This much of a drop in quality, usually makes for a very scary situation in the kitchen. I did not take a peak, only because of the terrible disapointment in quality.
i dont usually write reviews about these places but let me tell you, they have the most delicious ground chicken lettuce wraps in the city. Its so good that I'm about to get in my car RIGHT NOW and go get some!
