People's Bar-B-Que (The)
This town restaurant has been serving up barbecue and soul food for the people in Miami for over 38 years. Everything here, including pork, chicken and ribs is barbecued over oak and smothered in a fabulously zesty sauce. Southern comfort food such as collard greens, baked beans are also available. Desserts change daily. The atmosphere here matches the hearty food. This is a down-home restaurant, in every way.
I absolutely LOVE People's Bar-B-Que! From there oak-smoked ribs, tasty yams, homemade banana pudding all the way to the almost at-home feeling you get when you're there. It's a very convient spot, few blocks away from Downtown. The service is friendly and you've got to try their homemade ice-tea and limonade! No wonder its been in business for 45 years!
I wanted to eat at Peoples because I heard a lot about there good food, and wanted to see for myself. So I went there on a Sat afternoon, not to long of a wait, which was good. The food tasted standard nothing too special about it. (had fried chicken w/ mac & cheese) After eating there food I felt weird all Sat night but couldnt really tell what was wrong. I woke up Sunday morning w/ an upset stomach and started vomiting up the same food I had eaten the day before from Peoples. My husband had a rib sandwich and started having the same symptoms just like me. Dont eat at Peoples, its not worth it!!
I was dissapointed in the quality of the ribs (lots of fat and grade D), the sides were good though, but then again how hard is it to boil some collard greens or serve baked beans from a can? I think the poor quality of the meat that had been heated/reheated was a turnoff
The food at People's is tops. Soulfull favorites are served up fresh, hot and with a smile. I especially like their meaty ribs, but their chicken is also phenomenal. As for side dishes, they're great too. I like collard greens and yams, but the mac and cheese is tasty too. The only thing about People's that could be a little better is its surroundings. There is nothing welcoming about the Overtown neigborhood that surrounds the restaurant. It is not the safest of places and should probably be avoided after dark.
