Herbies hours are short due to short staff. We are open from 11 am to about 3 pm Tuesdays thru Saturday s. Herbies also closes down the first couple weeks of September for cleaning and updates. Herbies also accepts credit cards now. And the food is great! Everything is homemade (from the batter , to the Cole slaw and dressings ) also you must try the homemade gram cracker crust key lime pie and the homemade hot fudge over delicious vanilla ice creme topped with whipped creme and cherries.
We have always loved Herbies. This year we were unable to eat at their restaurant because the were closed. The sign outside lists the hours, however, they were not open during those hours. We love their food, but are very dissapointed in their lack of communication.
I have been going down to Key West since birth. We make the drive from Ohio to Key West on a yearly basis and we have always made sure we stop at Herbies! It might look like a little shack but it has the best food ever! Shrimps as long as your head and conch fritters I crave. Also try out the conch chowder. I can't say enough great things about this family favorite.
Herbie's continues to rock, with outstanding customer service, along with great food! My boyfriend the trucker found out an hour ago that he was going to Key West. I called Herbie's for 2 gallons of conch chowder to be picked up tomorrow. Rebecca found the cook, confirmed it could happen, and said it would be ready to pick up before 4 pm tomorrow. But wait, there's more. They only take cash, so they're gonna trust us for an order over a hundred bucks. I miss Marathon, and hate Orlando more.
Don't let the appearance hold you back. All of these reviews are spot on. The sautaued mahi mahi was fantastic. The conch fritters taste great (and I don't even like fried food). Beer was only $1.50 and the people next to us were extremely impressed as well. If youre heading down to key west; go ahead and mapquest it and stop by. You definately won't regret it. RLL
FANTASTIC!! Best in the Keys...: Most definitely a favorite among the locals. Herbie's looks much like the many small dive restaurants in the Keys, but be patient and you will get a treat like none other you will experience in the Keys and seldom anywhere else.Everything here is wonderful, I always have to start with their conch chowder, the best I've ever had, and I really eat a lot of soup. Be sure to save room, or better yet, start with the Herbie's Banana's Fantastic.
Be sure to leave your credit cards home. Herbie's only takes cash
They are closed Sunday and Mondays
All the reviews of Herbie's are very positive and rightfully so. The food was excellent and the people friendly. The key lime pie had REAL whipped cream on top - it didn't come out of a aerosole can. I had the stuffed shrimp with rice and vegetables - all were very good.
On the tour of restaurants one encounters traveling, this is a hidden gem. Unpretentious, and easily missed, as it lies just north of the 7 mile bridge on Marathon, if you don't stop at Herbie's you have not only missed the best food in the Keys, but some of the best food you will find anywhere. I don't usually like red chowders, but just the though of Herbie's Conch Chowder makes me want to jump in my car and get there. A lot of places advertise Key Lime Pie, but if you want to experience it as God intended it to be, get a slice at Herbie's . Better yet, buy a whole pie to take along with you if you are smart. Their sauteed grouper is the best in the Keys. When you first stop in there you will wonder why I am recommending it so highly as it looks much like the many small dive restaurants in the Keys, but be patient and you will get a treat like none other you will experience in the Keys and seldom anywhere else. I rate this place a five out of five stars.. and do so only because the scale does not go higher. The service is wonderful as the wait people are funny and attentive, and the food is like you dream the Keys should be. Go hungry and you will experience the best of the Keys at Herbie's. I've been all over the world and this place ranks amongst my 10 favorite restaurants on the planet......
This is an old Florida Key favorite, you may overlook it if you drive too fast. It's not the most glamorous restaurant, but it's very Florida Keys. The seafood is rather fresh, you have to like fried or grilled food really to enjoy. Fried oysters would be at the top of my list with an iced tea. The service is usually great, like most other places in the Keys, much better than miami and laud. They've been around for over 30 years, lots of hurricanes, but a pretty good following. Look for the brown derby.
