During Memorial Day week end we were staying at the beach and a local friend suggested we go to Melo’s. My husband being Italian, immediately loved the idea. He ordered the special which was scallops with pasta. The manager came over to our table right after the food had been served and asked how everything was; however, no one had a chance to taste our meals. My husband anxiously tasted his meal and found the scallops tasted bitter. He asked if we would taste it to see if he was the only one who found the taste odd. We all agreed. When the waitress came and we informed her she said, “OK?” and did not have any other suggestions… We then asked the waitress to call the manager. When the manager finally came to the table she said that when she first stopped and asked how everything was we had no complaints. We explained to her that no one had a chance to taste the food when she came by. However she offered no other solutions, just saying that she would not take the meal back nor would it be taken off our bill. She was beyond rude at best. We allowed our guests and the kids to complete the meal before asking for the check. When the bill came there was an 18% gratuity added as suggested gratuity. My husbandly jokingly told the waitress, “For good service I tip 20% or more. I know this wasn’t your fault, but this was a unique experience…This is by far a place that we would never visit again.” Neither apologies nor were excuses given. We did tip the waitress we sort of felt sorry for her. She was young and lacked experience.
We frequent restaurants on a regular basis 4-5 times per week. This was by far the worst service we have received at any establishment. The rest of our group had meals that were ok, and I mean no better than any other 3 star Italian Restaurant. Definitely not any better than Olive Garden. We expected much better food than what was provided.
