My husband and I finally made it to the Lobster Shanty today. It was an absolutely beautiful day and we were able to sit outside by the river. There were several occupied tables and also a lovely view of the river. We had an excellent waiter by the name of Craig. He was tops and continually made certain we had everything we needed/wanted. My husband and I both had fried haddock - his was onion encrusted. OMG, both were cooked to perfection and served with fries and cole slaw. We were also served a basket of corn fritters that were to die for. All very yummy, reasonable prices and good service.
We ate here 30 years ago for the Rock Shrimp. We were area again and stopped in for more rock shrimp. We ate outside just before sunset right by the water. The food was great, the scenery overlooking the Banana River is excellent, and our waitress Theresa was excellent. If I had any complaints, it would be the portion size (because it was the Early Bird Special), but with an appetizer, it was just right. We arrived before 6 PM when the Early Bird special was still going on. The Early Bird meals included our non-alcoholic drinks, salad bar, main entree, side dish and desert for $12.99 each. Add in the appetizer and the bill was only about $37 with tax. Our waitress pointed out a Manatee with a baby and we were able to walk on the dock for a view. We will be back next year.
We ate here on vacation in October of 2008. The food was good but not outstanding. I was expecting more due to how expensive it was! I enjoyed eating outside watching the sun set over the river! The fritters were excellent and the salad bar was good!
First off, just because the parking lot is bust, doesn’t mean they have good food. Being that Jack Baker’s Lobster Shanty is in a tourist area, it’s always going to be packed; However, I did look at the license plates and half of them were Florida locals. I don’t know if the locals enjoy their seafood like this but I know I certainly DO NOT. Second, the food was disgusting. I had the special which was grouper stuffed with crabmeat for $23.99. When she brought it out, it was obvious that it had been cooked in the microwave. No signs of grill marks, baking, broiling, or cooking it in a skillet, AND to top things off, the crabmeat was old and spoiled. Luckily, I only ate one bite, after smelling the horrible dead fish odor that came from it. Third, the prices are very high for what you actually get. We had 2 entrees, 1 appetizer, and soup for $80.00. What we actually had was probably worth $30.00, MAYBE. Fourth & finally, you never want to get food poisoning from old seafood. That has to be the worst! And I can honestly say that I threw up 30 minutes later after eating at the Lobster Shanty. The food quality is poor and the restaurant owners could care less. They are making a bundle off of people that don’t know what they are getting themselves into. AVOID THIS RESTAURANT AT ALL COST!!! STAY AWAY!!
