Charley's Steak House I-DRIVE
Charley's Steak House is owned by the Woodsby family and has operated in Florida since 1974. Charley's serves only three-year-old USDA prime and choice Angus steers, aging them four to six weeks for tenderness & flavor and hand-cutting the steaks daily to ensure consistent quality. The steaks are then flame-broiled over Florida citrus and oak wood in a custom-built pit at 1200(o) searing in the tantalizing taste that has made Charley's the #1 steakhouse in America every year since 2007! Charley's philosophy of providing only the finest extends from the kitchen to the wine cellar. The wine list approaches 1000 selections from scores of exceptional wineries around the globe. Charley's has been recognized with numerous awards including "Best of Award of Excellence" from Wine Spectator magazine, DiRNA and Orlando Magazine's" Best Steak House & Best Old Favorite". Charley's has been creating fans from around the world for nearly 40 years. We look forward to having you become a fan soon!
I went tonight for the first time in years. It is nothing special. The filet mignon was good and huge but, not the best I ever had in my life. It only came with bread and salad which is hard to mess up. I ordered the cauliflower au gratin as a side which was huge but, just a typical calorie loaded dish and not much else.
With drink tax and tip it was $50 just for one person. I don't mind paying but, the restaurant has no ambiance and is nothing special considering it is fine dining. For less your typical chain steakhouses are better and you will probably receive better service. The food and service is just average. If your looking for a nice steakhouse I would keep looking.
In tonite for dinner, first time. I ate at Charley's on Orange Blossom last nite. This Charley's was nearly as good, about the same actually. I had carrot cake as my appetizer. Very good and very large portion. My main course was medium size filet mignon. Food quality was exceptionally good, but portion size was considerably smaller than at the Charley's on Orange Blossom. Perhaps the waiter gave me the small size. It was quite enough at any rate and again, very good quality cut. I had garlic mashed potatoes also. Very good again. Thanks folks. Well done.
I was shocked to see this only received 4 stars. The service will be slow, as is the case with all fine dining restaurants. This is something that is hard to get used to if you are used to eating at Chili's and being in and out in 45 minutes. Usually takes an hour and 45 minutes for you to eat at a place like this (not saying I don't usually prefer faster service).
I live out of state and always eat here when in town. If I am at a convention for 4 nights, I will eat at Charlie's on my first and last night. I wouldn't say this is necessarily the best steak I have ever had, but I would say this is my favorite restaurant and steakhouse in the country. You will get an equally good tasting steak at a Morton's or Ruth Chris, but I think the wood grilled flavor is more unique than other steakhouses I've been to. That is why I give Charlie's the nod. I have heard Vito's Chop nearby is also very good, but never eaten there.
I have probably eaten at Charlie's 7 times in 5 business trips in the last 3 years if that says anything. If you are using Outback as a reference for how to measure steakhouses where you pay $18 for steak, potato, and salad, and eat in 45 minutes, Charlie's is not that type of place. Charie's will cost you about $35 for a steak, $5-8 per side dish, drinks will be costlier, and the service will be slower. For a business dinner or special occasion, this is definitely the way to go. For a regular Friday night in which you are paying the bill, I'd probably just go to an Outback.
In summary, Charlie's will give you a similar dining experience in price, quality of food, atmosphere, and service to a place like Morton's, Shula's, Ruth Chris, etc. Their wood grill flavor is very unique though, even when compared to other wood grills. If I am not paying the bill and can choose to eat at any restaurant in the country, it would be Charlie's.
I love charlies, I always have a new and fine experience.. I had a server named jason and he made me feel like I owned it and definitely informed on all the possibilities of entrees and sides. He was the best server I have ever had in a dinning experience. ps, his steak presentation was like watching a disney show, very classy and forthright
