There are a handful of restaurants in Orlando that serves Dim Sum. Chan’s stand out for its consistency, freshness, and abundance of items. Some of the other Dim Sum restaurants seem to be in a constant state of rush, rush in sit down, here is the food, hurry up and eat, now you pay, get out. Huh. Can the last piece of food at least get pass my throat? Forget about how unorganized, under staffed, and under par food they have. Chan’s have somehow been able to master the art of moving the masses on a Sunday brunch, so at any given time they are ready for a crowd or a slower day. For the uninitiated gentle readers who are still puzzled as to what in the world is Dim Sum, simple; Chinese style tapas. Little plates of one or two pieces from a huge variety of items. No, not fried rice and lo mien. This is Cantonese style small dishes of meat or vegetable stuffed buns or crepes. Although, there is a full Chinese menu. But why go to Dim Sum and order from the menu? So how does this work? There is always a line or crowd hovering around the entrance. Be brave and nudge your way or allow yourself to be swept up front. Get someone’s attention, (there is no host), party of ”how many” and off you go. The restaurant is huge and the tables are mostly for parties of four or more, so larger the party the faster they sit you. Parties of two, try to REALLY get someone’s attention. Stand by, the minute you are seated here comes the carts of food. Great thing, we all eat with our eyes, the food stares back at you. Usually the carts have a couple of various dishes, ask the attendant to identify them. Another cart will come around and so on and so forth. They will keep coming around until you tell them to stop. Be careful pace your self, no one will rush you here, they may move around the dining room really fast and shout at each other but this is just they way it is. Relax and enjoy. Try a couple of things you might surprise yourself. There are a couple of different types of teas available. I prefer to sip on a pot of hot Chrysanthemum. This is a loose leaf tea so let it steep a little and its okay if a couple of pieces are in the cup. They also serve it with some sugar crystals. Bright floral, nicely balanced tea. The food here is the star. There are items, steamed, roasted, baked, and sauteed. There is something for every discerning palate from steamed vegetables to fowl’s feet. Dig in and enjoy.

First let me say I am from New York and know good Dim Sum. This was my first visit to Chan's, and will NOT be my last. The food is AMAZING and FRESH. It is VERY clean on the inside and I am not sure where the haters are saying watch out for the glass in the parking lot, cause there isn't any. We got there @ 10AM and were the first today, Sunday July 10th, 2011. The people that work here are the most friendliest I have ever met in a restaurant environment. They all spoke English and were VERY accommodating explaining everything on the Dim Sum cart (even though we know all of them). I can not begin to tell you how impressed we were with EVERY aspect of our first experience with Chan's. We come to our home in Central Florida every other month and will go back to Chan's from now on.

Chan's is a great local chinese place. Been eating there for over 10 years. And the owner and staff are wonderful. There are those americanized dishes and also the more traditional one. They are one of the best, if not the best in Orlando. You will enjoy all they have to offer

Best Dim Sum in town! Get there early, because the lines get long, and the best dishes run out quickly! Closest thing to what our grandparents cooked at home. Service is efficient and friendly, and it's always fun to choose off the carts.

Great Dim sum
By ,
BEfore I discovered Mikado, a local MEtrowest Japanese food place, my family usually come here every weekend for dim sum. We've never gotten tired of the shu mai and the tofu rolls and the sesame seed ball. The people that work here are also very very friendly. We would also usually bring friends and family here for special occassions. We love this place if we want Chinese food or dim sum. I live about 14 miles away and we would drive every weekend to go for dim sum.

Unimpressed

The dumplings were the only thing that we ordered and ate without question. The beef fried rice and the sesame chicken seemed like safe choices and ended up being a bad choice. The service was great and it was a very quiet and clean place to eat but it doesnt make up for the lunch that ended up in the trash.

Don't waste your time

I should have known better than to stop in and eat at this restaurant again. I went here about 5 years ago with my sister, and she didn't like it at all. I didn't have a bad experience, but never desired to go back. Recently my boyfriend wanted to try it, and so we went. First, we ordered our food which came with wonton soup. Usually I like this soup, but I could not finish it because it was way too salty and the wontons were mushy. Then my food came out - Chicken with mixed veggies. I first tried the fried rice which had the after taste of rubber. Then, my chicken with mixed veggies came out in a light colored, but heavy, brown sauce that tasted like squid juice. I like squid, but the dish was not supposed to take like that! Lastly, we decided to leave and the women tried to keep us there and bring us out new food, and we finally just had to tell her we were not interested. Neither of us touched our meals or my soup. My boyfriend ate his soup and tea. So, she charged us for one meal. The whole time she never apologized. I didn't mind paying, but I think with all of the bad food we had and the little that we ate, we should not have been charged. Don't eat here when we have so many good and authentic chinese restaurants in Orlando.
