Shin Jung Korean Restaurant
There's nothing fancy about the atmosphere at Shin Jung but the restaurant is clean and features simple decor that doesn't distract from the basic business of dining. Entrees include such items as Hawe Nang Myun - a dish of cold noodles and hot spices and Al By Tang - a beef-rib soup. A selection of barbecued items, in Korean style, of course, includes cow tongue and tripe.
I am korean and I am very particular about my food! I don t eat pork, beef, chicken. I only eat tofu, shrimp, and some kinds of fish. The last time I dined in alone, I asked for kimchee stew that had pork. I asked for pork to be left out and no pork broth. Well, I got a stew dish with minimal tofu and as asked, no pork. If I were the chef I would try to put more tofu in for not having put in pork. That s just the first reaction I got when I saw the stew arrive. That s like common sense to me. Most restaurants are so cheap with tofu. I don t understand it. It s not as pricey as meat!
Also I got mostly kim chee style side dishes. Again, my standards are ultra-high because I grew up under a super chef mom and older sister who make awesome korean food. I can cook these foods, but since I don t have the time to make them right now (or constantly stock up on two groceries: korean and regular), I ended up dining in.
I also wasn t too pleased that my waitress cleaned up a table before she got me my check. Yes, I was finishing up (still eating), but she should have come by and asked if everything is okay (someone else did while literally walking, as if to say, you better be okay ). Yes, the waitress smiled and seemed kind, but she took a new arrival s order before she gave me my check! Shouldn t she be concerned about her tip? Secure the tip, then serve the new customers? I waited a good 7-10 minutes after finishing my last bite. Then another waiter got me my tip. My waitress came by when I was signing and said, Thank you . Uncoordinated.
Do I have high standards? YES. I miss korean food a lot is the only reason I think I may forget the less than ideal experience and revisit the restaurant in a month or two. I am going to demand more tofu next time. My only concern is if they are going to tag on an extra $4 charge or something because their cold tea was $2.50 or $2.75 when in Jacksonville, FL or Portland, OR or the majority of the places, it comes out as free when you enter the restaurant.
Ughh, I hate to say anything bad because I woudn t want the restaurant to die out, but really, they need to be more efficient and put more common sense into their service.
I've been their customer for a year now, and agree with the previous reviewer that they have bad tip etiquette. The food is awesome since there are not so many Korean restaurant around Orlando area, their Kalbi is the king of the house! Small place, and don't bother to use the grill and share it with your friends or family members, and don't bother to get smelly to! I suggest you should try the spicy kalbi tang, it's good for cold weather.
Their banchans are amazing. Yet another incident came where the waitress (well one of them) chased me and my friends for more tip, that's rude! Dunno if they're understand that I'm a student (consider there are some colleges around like UCF, Fullsail, Rollins and Valencia). Well we did gave her 10% tip or so, yet she asked for more...wow consider the one that served me is quite unfriendly and ask for more tip, I wont go back for that...
Kinda sad to see that they have good potential for being a great (not good, but 'great') small restaurant with amazing house specialties, yet bad attitude towards customer. What a shame...
It seems that i already know which waitress or waiter that's nice to me there, and which one's not, not being biased but being a customer who frequently ate there for a year I have quite an experience with them...
My only major complain at Shin Jung in Orlando is be VERY AWARE when you get inside because the service is terribly bad and I mean BAD. We did not get any types of greetings or a smile when we walked in, no asking if we would need anything else during our meal and the waiter has the nerve to come after us asking for more tips. I just couldn't believe my eyes. That's just terrible. I have never in my life been in and out of a restaurant with that type of anger before. That's is just damn rude. Otherwise, the price is a little pricey and the foods are good.
It's a Great RESTAURANT!
I loved their Kalbi and Bulgogi!! But most of all,
I go there for the side dishes. They have so many different side dishes, and the best thing about it is that they change their side dishes often. I was just there back to back, and they changed their side dishes and VERY FRESH!! some other Korean Restaurant have side dishes but not very fresh, but they are different.
I loved their services, and they have good food, and good people.
It's not a big fine dine in restaurant but it's family operating and very good food.
You gotta Try If you come to Orlando/!!!
Great Korean Food!! Lov Kalbi & Bulgogi
I go to this restaurant with my family, friends.. etc. Its always great! most of time, they are so packed, I had to wait a little but It's great restaurant with great food. I love their Kalbi, and Bulgogi. They are one of my favorite restaurant in Orlando.
The food is OK. I had Korean food at California before so of course, it can't be compared. It's nothing special. But the kimchi wasn't good and we didn't get enough service. I guess we came in at lunch time so there was lot of dishes lying around on other tables, and only one waitress to take care of it all.
I've eaten Korean food in Boston, Seattle, Los Angeles and this restaurant in Orlando by comparison is OK, not that good but not that bad either. I like their service. They used green leaf lettuce for the BBQ instead of the standard red leaf lettuce. Their side dishes are standard compare to other places. Their BBQ is good, their tofu seafood soup, I didn't like it that much.
The Best Korean Food and will be going back often: If you like korean food then this is the best resturant that you would find. The food was hot and fresh and the soup was the best and the prices are great. I would recomend it to anyone. They now have lunch prices that are resonable.
