Alfonso's Pizza & More
Sometimes, no matter how sophisticated your palate, you just need a pizza fix. When you're in that frame of mind, head over to this pizza spot. Chefs here make pizza crust fresh daily and the results are a taste treat. Favorites include a personal Sicilian Cheese Pizza, and a house specialty pie, with your choice of five toppings. Apart from the pizzas, you can also opt for the tasty paninis, pastas and sandwiches. This friendly place draws an eclectic crowd, everyone from college kids to professionals looking for a good meal. However make sure you get there early as the restaurant does not accept reservations and the wait can be longer.
Linda had forgotten that it was VD - but I took her out last night anyway.
I gave her a couple of choices to pick from (nothing too far away )
She picked a place called RAGAZZIs on Edgewater Drive - Italian place.
It used to be Alphonsos - that closed - they remodeled and opened something new with a brand new menu
She knows that they have a full bar there and she wanted a mixed drink
We waited 13 minutes for our waitress to take our order (2 more minutes I said that we were out the door)
Their new menu does not include Lindas favorite Italian dishes - so she said lets split a pizza
A large is only $2 more than a medium pizza - so we ordered a large supreme pizza - $20 (overpriced in my opinion)
Tuesday is 50c wing night so I also ordered 5 Buffalo Wings for us to try
It took 35 minutes for us to get our food
Anyplace else - a pizza is ready in 10 minutes
Our waitress told us at one point that the wings were ready and she was just waiting on the pizza
I said - go ahead and bring the wings
The wings showed up 50 seconds before the pizza did
As soon as I bit into the first wing I said - these arent cooked
When Linda ate her 2nd wing - it was bloody inside
She told our waitress - our waitress asked if we wanted a fresh cooked one - Linda said no (at that point she was full of pizza)
So our waitress thanked us and said shed take it back and show the cook
When I got the bill - she charged us for 5 wings - we only ate 4 wings.
The pizza was ok - but weve had better and cheaper.
Linda had 2 mixed drink
The total bill was $34.07
Linda wanted to go and me leave our waitress a $6 tip
Our waitress brought me my $6 change from $40
I left her a $5 tip
I would have left less (if she brought me all singles) except she only gave me a $5 and $1
So she got a $5 tip 14.7% tip - she deserved less
The service was the pits.
We wont be back.
I did notice that they did a lot of take out orders while we sat waiting for our waitress - probably because of the terrible service.
Alfonso, what can I say? Put on a blind fold and throw a dart. Maybe you hit the bulls eye or the dart buries in the wall. Best and worst pizzas I've ever had, anywhere. When its good, its good, the best in Orlando. But, when its bad, it's burnt, soggy and cries out with careless indifference. I'm headed out the door right now for another Alfonso's pizza. Hope I get lucky tonight.
My co-worker went to Alfonso's for lunch and came back with an entree fit for 3. We shared it and I was impressed. The pasta dish was fresh. I went with a friend for lunch the next week and their hot wings are AWESOME! I plan to eat their again! Nice local spot to get hot great food
I disagree with the last reviewer.
I have eaten at Alfonzos under both ownerships and the food is just as good as it was. Prices have gone up a tad, but that is to be expected over time. THe quantity of food for what you pay is good,
The new owner is Anthony who owns about 4 other restaurants around town.
Go and enjoy or takeout. Service is fast.
Fun local spot for cocktails at the bar as well.
Just to add a more up to date review (as most of these reviews are a few years old now), Alfonso's was taken over by another local pizza chain, which is the reason their food quality has gone down. I used to eat there on an almost weekly basis, but no more. Several years ago, I would have given it 5 stars...I'll be kind and give them 3 stars now.
Three years ago I had my first pizza from Alfonso's. It was very good, in fact -- it was almost excellent. Unfortunately - something changed.
The last pizza that I ordered from Alfonso's will be the last pizza I order from Alfonso's. The pizza used to have homemade meatballs - now it's Sysco. Extra cheese use to imply extra cheese - now it means barely enough. And, please, let's not even talk about the sauce.
I gave the service one star. That's generous. The wait staff is poorly trained, and they don't even try to be friendly. In three visits inside the restaurant we waited while servers chatted with their friends, took cell phone calls outside and left our food sitting on the counter for nearly 15 minutes. Not to mention completely forgetting an appetizer!
In short, for good pizza in Orlando, I recommend almost any place other than Alfonso's.
I will admit the Pizza is very good. It is not the best, there is no way of knowing who makes the best pizza unless you have had every pizza in the world. But the best pizza I have had is located in NY, as well as Italy. It is the 2nd best I have had in Orlando, FL. Very nice people. Great location. Wish they were bigger slices though. More NY style. Overall 9/10
Alfonso's Pizza and Sports Bar is an excellent place to relax and enjoy great pizza. The service is great, the environment is very friendly, and most importantly the food is great. The prices are very reasonable. Great Pizza Choice!
