A well run, lakefront restaurant chain that offers prime rib as a specialty and other great selections such as grilled salmon, roasted chicken, and delicious steaks. They are open daily for lunch and dinner.
Houston's is the best place around! You can't beat the steaks: Hawaiian Ribeye is the best on the planet. Ask for a cut of NY Strip, often served as a special(not on the menu).Tasty grilled artichokes for appetizers!! The ambience is great! A Frank-lloyd Wright style architecture-lakefront establishment. Cocktails and Dining during sunsets is a beautiful experience. The service is exceptional, a lot of different people serving you. Only draw back, servers are trained to be robotic-like and non-personal. May experience extraordinary long wait, well worth it though!
Oh I had to review the place I'm gonna be hangin at when I'm 65. This place is like an old folks home with free Viagra dispensers in the rest rooms. There are so many gold diggers here (believe me, you don't want to see them) you could start an ex-wives support group at the bar. This place has mediocre food, a very limited menu (probably because their customer base has to wear depends), and A GREAT LAKESIDE VIEW. Take a date here if you want to get a little after dinner smooching by the water. Don't go in the summer (mosquitos) try Nov.-Dec., other than that, when you get old, come here for the kitty's. No other reason though sorry.
Houstons is the best. I am surprised to read these other reviews below. The service is always top notch and professional. The food is always fresh and good quality. With all of these things, plus the best view in Orlando, the price is right. I tip the valet $2-3. And if you wait you can find a space if you dont want to valet.
I have had nothing but great service and great food at houstons. Best to go at sunset and sit by the lake for wine and appitizers. then go in for dinner. great for all occasions. I have had a date there, family dinner, birthday celebration and business dinners.
I was at a corporate function and as our second choice to eat we decided Houston's. We walked through the door and it smelled like roaches. They did act snobby, but I'm used to that. Out of the eight in our party, two got sick that night and one had a stomach ache all night. I don't recommend this to any person that has to go any where in the next twenty four hours. Beers are four dollars and you can't even see the floor.
Houston's provided a wonderful dining experience. The entrance is on the east side of the restaurant. The restaurant is rustic and nestled under oaks and magnolias. When you walk inside, you immediately face west, and the entire west side of the restaurant opens to a spectacular view of Lake Killearny, viewable from the entire interior of the restaurant and bar. White Adirondack chairs are lined up on the lawn behind the restaurant under a huge oak tree for sunset viewing. We were lucky enough to be seated for a spectacular sunset over Lake Killearney just before appetizers were served. I thought when I left the southwest coast of Florida I had left views like this behind. I ordered prime rib, and it practically melted in my mouth. There were six in our party - all our food was served hot and perfectly cooked. Large portions. We all took home a doggie bag. Service was excellent. Attentive without being in the way. I highly recommend Houston's. I go back at least once a month now that I have discovered it.
This is the place for business deals by day, and a date or friends gathering by night. On Thurs/Fri/Sat they provide table service on the lawn, weather pending. The view of the lake from your adirondack chair is a fabulous cap to a long day. They have a decent wine selection, and although the prices are a little above average, they serve well over the standard pour. Houston's used to have live jazz, which I miss.
I would like to rebut the other comments listed here. First, prime rib is a very fatty cut of meat and perhaps one might consider choosing a new york strip or a filet as a leaner alternative. Second, crab cakes are generally small and expensive, especially if they are made from freshly imported lump crab meat.
Third, Houston's is about dining as an experience. Their menu is simple because they seasonally rotate dishes.
Fourth, one should know that whether or not an establishment charges for valet, a tip is customary.
