There's not many places to go if you'd like a home cooked meal for breakfast.
Perkins is, unfortunately, the only one of those places within easy reach.
I say unfortunately because, while the food is superb, I have not ever encountered more neglectful service; and it's the same level of service every time I visit.
Walking in the door I may wait 10-15 minutes before the very first employee walks out from behind the kitchen door. Perhaps longer until they see me and longer still until I am seated.
My most recent visit, after waiting a few minutes, I just poked my head in the kitchen and asked if I could seat myself. The other two parties who arrived after me are apparently used to this... they didn't even ask.
If that was the worst of it, it may be nice. On the four occasions I have visited my order, once taken, was right only once. I didn't order anything particularly special-- off the menu, nothing unusual.
My drink, once and if I got one has not yet been refilled while I stayed there.
Finally, every time I have left I have had to stick my head into the kitchen and ask someone to please ring me up. Perkins is the only place that has inspired me to dine & dash and only because I have to go to such lengths just to get someone to pay attention to the front of the store long enough to collect their money.
The food is, however, still good. The service I'm sure can be improved, and may be better for meals after breakfast. But four times for four visits I have left Perkins regretting everything but the full tummy.
