Mel's Family Diner, Sanford

We found Mel s Diner while visiting from NH. We love the place and their liver and onions is so good. Have been there many times and plan to go many more before we head north.

Made from scratch pancakes...yummy! I visit about once a month and I haven t been disappointed with the food. The service can be slow at times, even when they re not busy. The staff is courteous and the food is enough for the price.

As you read these reviews remember one thing. Some are disgruntled employees trying to get even because they were fired for doing a poor job or just not showing up at all. Mel's Family Diner has been around for over 25 years so they must be doing something right. See for yourself how good the food tastes, the prices are great the portions. Everybody wants a huge plate full of food and pay a dollar for their meal. If you want really cheap unidentifiable food go to your local drive thru, If you want real good food made from scratch than go to Mel's.

My fiance and i eat breakfast here 2 times a week. Great place, great staff, great prices...great food.

MY EXPERIENCE AT MELS WAS HORRIBLE. THE CUSTOMERS SERVICE EXPERIENCE FROM THE OWNERS DAUGHTER WAS THE MOST HORRIFIC AND DISGUSTING THING IVE EVER ENCOUNTERED WE ASKED FOR THE STEAK SIRLOIN AND RECEIVED A MEDIUM RARE HAMBURGER PATTIE INSTEAD MY AFTER ASKING THE WAITRESS FOR SOMETHING ELSE THE OWNERS DAUGHTER SO VERY RUDELY COMMENTED THAT THIS IS WHY RESTAURANTS DONT STAY IN BUSINESS BECAUSE THEY GIVE FOOD AWAY HOW DISRESPECTFUL OF HER TO BEHAVE THAT MANNER ESPECIALLY IN FRONT OF MY LITTLE GIRL MY ADVISE FOR MELS DINER IS TO 1ST LEARN THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SIRLOIN AND HAMBURGER PATTIES AND THEN SOME CUSTOMER SERVICE LESSON WOULD'NT HURT AND MAYBE THEY WOULD BE MORE SUCCESSFUL THAT SMALL BUSINESS WOULD NEVER SEE MY MONEY EVER AGAIN.................. We have been going to Mel's for many years. We love it and Brenda & staff are always friendly. Food is good and I love the family owned quaint atmosphere. When we go there, we feel like family :)

I ate at Mel's today and ordered the fried chicken with a salad. The chicken tasted awful & the salad was pathetic. Lettuce was white wilting iceberg. I cannot comment on the rest of the menu. The chicken tasted like the meat was old and had no breading or seasoning like traditional fried chicken - basically they threw the chicken in oil with a few crumbs of something that appeared to be breading - it was served up extra greasy, I should have returned it but paid for it anyway.

My husband and I visited Mel's Diner in Sanford this morning. He had Gayle's Special and I had the veggie omlet. Our food was bland, the serving sizes less than generous, and the customer service we received was the worst I've ever encountered. Long story short, we were mislead about the price of one of the items we ordered (a side of gravy) and then told that they couldn't change the receipt (hand-written) and take off the charge. The manager that I spoke with was very nasty with me and refused to remove the charge. My husband stayed behind and payed the bill, but I was infuriated. I will never go back to this over-priced, greasy diner and will encourage everyone I can to avoid it.

I've been eating at Mel's since 1998, and this place is the real deal! Rich, Brenda and the girls treat you like you are part of the family, and the food is just like home cookin', except better because I don't cook at home! The coffee actually tastes like coffee, and the H&C Omelettes are the best I've ever had, and I've had many! (Thanks, Jerry) Keep up the great work, Mel's!!! Dave
