We usually frequent other BBQ joints because of location to our home. Found ourselves in Sanford with an appetite and were drawn into Sonny's by that smokehouse smell. The parking lot was almost full, which is a good sign, but franchises seem to do a good job attracting patrons. So the real test is what's going on inside. The hostess was very pleasant and seated us promptly. The waiter came to our table immediately after and greeted us with the usual introduction and questions about drinks and possible appetizers. He was friendly and engaged us in conversation without being pushy. The drinks were delivered in adequate time and the food came shortly after. The pulled pork was very tasty and did not have too much fat. The temperature of the food was good, especially the fries which can loose there appeal when left on the kitchen counter too long. I would say the best part of the meal was the BBQ beans. I pride myself as being somewhat of a baked bean connoisseur. The recipe here had just the right amount of meat as to not be over bearing on the beans themselves and still give flavor. Another point that sets these apart from others is the consistency of the sauce surrounding the beans. If you have too much, the concoction is 'runny' and invades the other food on your plate (although mine were served in their own plate) or they come across as dry and 'sticky'. These were as close to perfection as I have seen in Central Florida. The check was appropriate for the type of food ordered, as we have all seen the checks getting larger at many restaurants. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for good BBQ at a reasonable price with a family atmosphere.
