So when are favorite sushi place closed my husband and I went on a hunt for a great new place. With the reviews given here, we thought we would see how it was. It was a nightmare! I am serious and not even remotely stretching the truth of the fact. We pulled into a almost empty parking lot. Which should have been a red flag for lunch service. We go in and the decor is terrible and it smells. So we brave through that and sit down. The menu has limited sushi choice and a lot of of-the-wall rolls. We decided to stick to something simple to test the quality of the rolls. I mean, if a sushi place messes up a california roll you need to try somewhere else, you know. Well, we ordered and waited, waited, and waited. After 20 minutes, the rolls came out and to say the least we were not impressed. The rolls tasted old and it was a mess. I didn't even finish. We are never going back. Advice, If you are in FWB just go to Okinawa and If you are in Destin just go to Fuji by Target and save yourself some bad sushi tasting.

I love this restaurant little pricy but worth I try to go there once week! They have the BEST SUSHI in the world!!! Try the Darcy roll you wont have another roll ever again!!! The hibbachi save that for okinawa or osaka but they def have the best sushi in town just wish they would bring down the prices!

The food is great, I've noticed there is quite a turn-over in staff there. That usually has alot to say about the management, I've (on many diff. occasions) witnessed Jimmy & Chong's total lack of tact & respect for their staff. That leaves a bad taste in my mouth, ruining the taste of the food. I just can't patronize any place that treats employees in that manner, but I wish those girls luck in finding more suitable & gainful employment.

They are just OK, if you are desperate enough for Japanese food and Okinawa is too crowded, Yamato will do. I think next time I'll wait for a table at Okinawa. What they lack in any good food, they make up by having entertaining chefs.

Yamato Oriental Restaurant
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/26/06
Wow, My husband and I went here for our anniversary and we were able to get our own hibachi table since they weren't really busy. Our Cook was a little soft spoken but other than that we had a great time. The food was Great and Everyone was Friendly.

Great Sushi bar!!
By Joseph H, 9/25/06
The lady making sushi will make you ANY combo you can think of. They even offer Soy paper if you don't like seaweed. She even will make chicken/steak sushi, point is, very creative and fun sushi bar.

The Truth
By MIA, 1/23/06
Truth being told, the only thing Yamato's has going fo itself is James- the head sushi chef. The prices are way too expensive considering the service that you receive. I would recommend sitting at the sushi bar and the sushi bar only because if you sit anywhere else you might not get served before your next birthday. I have eaten there on numerous occasions and there never seems to be any servers working, the owner is there the majority of the time and she's obviously not very big on customer service...and who puts green beans in fried rice? This is a warning, if you do go here, go for sushi and make sure your request James only!!!!!!

Disappointment
By Suzann, 11/19/05
We went to Yamatos for my birthday and I just wanted to say what a HUGE disappointment it was! The waiter was so rude but why shouldn't he be?? He was the only one working in our section of more than eight tables! He was frustrated and you can tell in his voice with his other customers. The food was horrible and I know it could have been better.. and it has. And it took forever for us to get our appetizers, so they came out AFTER our meal did... thanks to the manager who was making it. I will never go back there again.
