I work in DeFuniak Springs, and it always seems a chore to find someplace to eat, especially if you want to avoid fast food or other country-style favorites. With tea, lunch usually runs about $7.60 plus tip. There are two full food bars and a dessert bar, including a freezer with cold iced cream. Everything is fresh. They do not overfill the bar, so they keep the food hot and fresh. I like having their HOT soup on any cold day. I personally like to cut out a lot of carbs and fried foods; there are plenty of other options available to me, from lots of hot vegetables to grilled fish and chicken-kabobs. All employees check on the bar, and if something is low, they will have someone top it off immediately.
There is always calming Chinese music playing in the background, and I find this restaurant a calming oasis in an otherwise hectic and chaotic day. The employees are usually quiet and very helpful. If you do start a conversation with one of them, they are pleasant and very friendly. Your drink seldom goes empty; by the time my drink is half-empty, someone has come along to refill it.
The restaurant and bathroom are always very clean, and the employees are very professional in appearance and behavior. They take their jobs very seriously. I have also noticed that employees try to remember small details from one visit to the next. One young lady always remembers to drop me off a pair of chopsticks, since she noticed that I like to use them. They will all remember your favorite drink and treat you like a friend. I can almost always strike a conversation with one of the other visitors. What can I say? DeFuniak Springs is a very friendly town. Whether you eat there regularly, or stop in once in a while, it is well-worth your visit.
