We went to Kitcho last week and sat in the velvet lounge side. So relaxing and cool! I tried the calamari salad and then got the special killer roll. The presentation was beautiful and everything tasted fantastic! The bartender also waited on us and the service was great.
I go here at least once a month and almost always get the sushi. It's so freaking fresh that I can't really deviate. Well, except for the fact that I usually get the edamame and calamari salad before the sushi arrives. And a good cab or pinot grigio. We usually sit in the bar or on the couches of the Velvet Lounge. It's more laid back, plus we love the bartenders. It's a great place to meet with friends and chill. Back to the sushi: there are a lot of sushi places that have popped up all over the place, so many, in fact, that I wouldn't be surprised if McDonald's started offering a McSushi on their menu. But keep in mind that Kitcho knows what they are doing. They use the freshest fish imaginable. Upgrade to the real wasabi (did you know that there's a difference?) and you are in for a real treat.
Kitchos is one of the finest places to enjoy a great meal with family and friends in a warm and friendly atmosphere. The food is masterfully prepared at both the Sushi bar and the kitchen. Their tempura is heavenly, and their duck breast is to die for. For a special occassion or a wonderful lunch, it's simply the best food in town. I recommended to townies and visitors with the same enthusiasm. I have been a regular for more than a decade now and I've never been disappointed by either the food or the service. The wait staff is simply the best!
I thought their sushi was ok, kinda over priced but my husband seems to think it's good. However, tonight, we swore we'll never be back there again. We had a a waitress who kept trying to push things at us like more soda and other items (to push the bill up), even leaned on our chair while taking orders. But when we asked her opinion with regards to some items on the menu, she flatly told us that she doesn't really like sushi (so much for selling the food and service). But the worse part was when my husband went to the restroom, he overheard her mocking us and the amount of our tip. We are struggling students and had saved up for a month to go for a nice meal and what we gave was what we could afford (it was a decent amount). Thus it was very hurtful to be belittled as such. Needless to say, Kitcho Restaurant will be strucked off our list. I'm sure there are other restaurants who would welcome our $50 spending budget and who would treat their customers with more respect.
I think Kitcho is fantastic all-around. The food is delicious, and they have a great selection to choose from; usually, we get the rolls, and are always satisfied with what we receive. I have never had bad service; our servers have been attentive and polite but not overbearing. The prices are comparable to other restaurant specializing in sushi. I also think the place has great ambience; the room is small but the tables are not too close together, the lighting is muted but not too dim, and it is fun to watch the sushi chef behind the bar. I highly recommend Kitcho to sushi lovers in Tallahassee.
This place has exceptional sushi but I've never seen worse service. The last few visits were bad experiences. The poor service has completely turned me away from this place, and its sad because the sushi really is good. I called in for take-out the other day, and they were too busy to do take-out orders! I'm done with this place!
