We went to this Wasabi on January 4, 2010 at about 2:45 pm. We were not aware that they were about to close from their lunch shift and would NOT be restocking the buffet. We went to the buffet and were very disappointed by the appearance of the selection and asked the waitress if they would be restocking...she said YES! We got very, very little from the buffet when we went up there because of the poor selection and empty pans/trays. We walked up to view the buffet a few minutes later and NOTHING had changed. I approached a Manager and expressed our dissatisfaction and said we would not be staying. I explained we drove all the way from Mandarin to eat at this location. I asked him to take into consideration the buffet selection and that I use to be a regular customer before I moved and would he please compensate us accordingly...we were only there 25 minutes and selected VERY LITTLE from buffet - one time. I literally had 4 pieces of sushi and 4 shrimps. We went back to our table, the Manager told the waitress to bring him our check and we met him at the register. We were still charged $15.00! This is unaccepted to me. We left Wasabi and drove back to Mandarin and went to Osaka Japanese Buffet to eat. SO, we ended up paying twice for a meal. The meal at Osaka was 200% better than Wasabi.
Wasabi is at most, average food for a buffet. The selection is decent, you do have a number of sushi to choose from and if you are not picky, can enjoy. Don't come expecting top quality sushi because you will surely be disappointed. But for one price and all you can eat sushi, it's not bad at all.
We went to this Restaurant on the 24th of December, BIG mistake, it was not worth what we paid. If you want a good sushi place with crab legs. I recommend OSAKA Sushi & Grill on San Jose Blvd. They are always busy but at least you know everything is fresh. bc904
We went to this restaurant on a holiday, thinking it would be a great idea to get sushi-to-go instead of cooking...BAD IDEA. With only TWO customers in the whole restaurant, excluding us, the chefs LITERALLY didn't even LOOK at our orders for 20 minutes!!! (There were 6 chefs!). Finally when we inquired about the wait the server checked with one of the chefs. He then BEGAN to look over our order. It took us 45 MINUTES before we got our food...which was simply average in quality, nothing we'd choose over our normal sushi places. If you NEED sushi on a holiday come to this restaurant. If you like good sushi AND good service, just wait until the next day. It'll be well worth the wait!
The ambiance is not why you go to Wasabi's - it's the sushi buffet. The restaurant itself is fine but standard. The sushi however is fresh and abundant. Made by sushi chefs you see making it constantly is laid out very clearly to pick out as litte or as much as you want. There is also a hot bar with some of your Asian favorites including tempura, soups, noodles, etc. The low price of the buffet is hard to believe, but believe it.
The Wasabi in 5 Points has become our regular Friday night date spot! It is a truly amazing place! I love crab legs and chinese food, and my honey loves sushi! What a treat that we both get what we want for a reasonable price!
Keep up the good work! and the great food!
