Harrys was so bad it is closed. Now it is Salt Life which has a short Shelf Life. It will soon follow as thee is nothing to distinguish it from the other restaurants that have already shut down in the area. In a good economy it is tough for a restaurant to make it, now that we are in a reccession you have to really bring it. Not gonna happen. I could be very wrong - third street diner is still (somehow) open.
I come to Jacksonville about four or five times a year on business and I always make a stop at Harry's. The food has always been delicious and the staff top notch. The price may be just slightly higher than average, but that is the only objection. I will say that the steaks are good and the shrimp and grits are excellent!!!!
I was just cruising for a restaurant near the beach, since I live a few miles inland. I stumbled upon Harry's after reading a number of menus elsewhere. They had the best choices and quite a number of them so we decided to give it a try. Boy! This place is fantastic! There was a crab and cheese appitizer to die for and our entrees were incredible (Chicken Pasta and Grouper).
The prices aren't particularly cheap, but far less than what you'd pay at other places that equal this quality (about $13 - $20 for entrees). It's as good as Bone FishGrille; yet less expensive and you get more. I wish I could remeber our waiter's name because he was great; answered all questions and made great recommendations. The atmosphere is very casual, similar to a Longhorn or Outback, but the menu is completely different.
I can't recommend this place highly enough. If you are looking for a great place, great service and fair prices, you must visit Harry's. I've been to some of the finest restaurants in Jacksonville and I would rate this one among my top favorites.
Please don't ruin this place by bringing kids...
Harry’s has the best New Orleans style food on this side of Bourbon Street. The atmosphere was festive, the service was impressive, and the food was unlike any other around. We started out the evening with the Shrimp and Crawfish Foudeux. The shrimp was fresh and tender and the crawfish was awesome with their signature cheese dip. The toasted French crustini was the perfect to dip in this Louisiana favorite. For my entrée, I had the Jambalaya. It was a huge, traditional, Creole platter with a mix of grilled shrimp, marinated chicken, smoked sausage, and Cajun seasoned rice. My date ordered the Shrimp Scampi Filet which he loved! His tender beef filet was seasoned with garlic herb butter and came topped with tender jumbo shrimp. All of our food was completely satisfying but we just couldn’t pass up the beignets for dessert. They came topped with powdered sugar, just like the ones I has at the French Market in New Orleans. We were enjoying the Mardi Gras atmosphere and decided to order cocktails and listen to the Dixieland music. We ordered the Harry’s Hurricane, it was a fruity drink made with rum, orange, pineapple juice, and passion fruit juice. They were so good that I ended up having one too many. It was a delicious drink that fit into the Mardi Gras spectacle. I would recommend Harry’s to anyone looking for delicious food and an unmatchable dining experience.
I just located here on a business project and I have been to Harry's three times for dinner and all times the food has been excellent, the portions were more than you could eat, service was ver professional. Great place and plant to keep going back!! I wished we had one in Virginia.
I am from Alabama. I went to Jacksonville beach to visit my family. We look for a good food finally we saw Harry and thought we would try it. The food was so DELICIOUS. It was little expensive but it was so worth it. The service was good also. I am planning to go back sometimes soon. They have good food for the little kids my kids ate everything on their plate.
This is not New Orleans cuisine. It is not even close. The best restaurants in the country are in New Orleans and it is beyond belief that they would even try to compare themselves to any of them. The food is terrible and over priced.
