Having grown up a few blocks away, Beach Road was always our family's only place for chicken in the 1950s/1960s. I moved to California in 1970 and missed their food so much - no other chicken comes close. We recently returned to Jax for the first time since '70 and could hardly wait to get to Beach Road - and were thrilled to find it as great as we'd remembered. It is still the most outrageously delicious chicken in the world [I nearly cried when the platter of chicken was brought to the table, it was so perfect!] The mashed potatoes, biscuits, rice and gravy are all to die for, too - exactly the same as decades ago. A million thanks, Beach Road, for not changing anything [you can't improve on perfection!] You're a true local institution, and we're so grateful that you've upheld the highest standard throughout the years. Now that we're back in Jax for good, we're looking forward to being your best customers!

There's a reason they've been in business in Jacksonville for so long. The chicken is always fried to perfection. good biscuits, potatoes, gravy, and you must have the creamed peas! My society picks this up for every monthly meeting. I highly recommend for simply delicious chicken!

Went as teen with parents all the time. Have not been in a long while. My family and I went there last night for a family get together. We were all very disappointed. The place was not so clean, run down. The waitress were not so clean either. One was walking around wiping her mouth and nose with the palm of her hands continuously then handling food. The chicken was over cooked and dry the potatoes were very boxed tasting. Nothing was like homemade or like we remembered. It was once a very good place to eat great food but now just a memory.

ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY THE BEST FRIED CHICKEN IN THE WORLD - NO ONE ELSE EVEN COMES CLOSE! We really appreciate the fact that the superb quality hasn't changed over the years - this is truly THE home of fried chicken - we can't get there often enough! Please don't ever change anything about this place - it is a Jacksonville treasure and a real Southern institution. Thanks for all the fantastic years of the most delicious chicken in the world. Yummy!

I luv the chicken ,but tje last 2 times i have eaten there the service was terrible. Last night our waitress was borderline rude, and the chicken was so slow that i got up and walked out. Another server had to come by and try and explain why it was taking so long. It was not busy ,very slow and they wanted to charge me for sweet-n lo packets,i wanted to add to my water. She told me it would be a drink charge if she gave me any. Between that and taking 22 min for my food i left.I have been going there for over 20 years, but in these tough economic times,if they do not need my business, fine. The only good thing was they did not make me pay for my wifes soda.

I was born and raised in Jacksonville and ate at the Beach Road Chicken House fro 30 years until I moved out of state. Then made a habit to eat there when ever I'm in town. I still CRAVE the chicken, chicken livers with gravy, biscuts and cream peas and the french fries too. Best eaten you could ever want.

You’ve heard the rest of the reviews. Folks, I’m telling you, there is no better chicken in the world! It is crispy, not greasy, moist and cooked to order. More sides than you can handle, plus you’ll be so busy digging into the chicken that you will tend to forget about the mashed potatoes and gravy, cream peas, cole slaw and fries if you want. Refills of sides are free and they also have the best southern sweet tea in town. I had un-sweet, but had them top me off with the sweet one. The service is exceptional for a checkered table cloth old restaurant. It is called Beach Road Chicken because when they opened in 1939 it was the only road to the beach; however they are located on Atlantic Blvd. Can’t say enough about this place and all the locals flock to this Jacksonville secret. They open at 4:00 except on Mondays. If you get there after 6:00 you may have to wait a bit. They are full every night, but it is worth a short wait for the absolute best southern fried chicken you will ever have. $7.99 for ½ chicken with sides and biscuits; can’t beat that! You can order any combo of pieces and they do have a few other items also. They will bake it for you if you want, but it takes 45 minutes. They don’t cook ‘till you order and it’s piping hot when it gets to you. You MUST go there!

This place has been around years and years and there's still lines outside. The food is great, service, price and overall you just can't beat! Every visit back to Jax we always stop by.
