Matthew's is elegant and exquisite. My fiance and I went there yesterday for dinner, it was our first time at this restaurant but the staff treated us like we were regulars. Our waiter David was very personable and knowledgeable. The chef really put his heart into the preparing and cooking of our meal. I can't express in words how awesome this restaurant is. Fine dining at its best. A++ to Matthew's Restaurant!

Perhaps Jacksonville's best fine cuisine. The tasting menu - $70 per person - is a good way to sample a variety of creative dishes. Divine risotto.

Matthew's Restaurant is one-of-a-kind!!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/27/09
Without a doubt the best restaurant in Jacksonville; in a class all by itself. The menu is always fresh and the service can't be beat. And the DESSERTS... Souffles to die for!!! If I wouldn't look like a pig, I would go there just for them! Another favorite is the Foie gras! OMG!! Definitely try it, but be warned, it is pricey, but there is no better food in Jacksonville.

I'd put Mathew's up against most any fine dining experience anywhere. Very knowledgeable staff. Exciting yet not exotic entres. A must for a special occasion.

An overall lovely experience an a perfect "special occasion". Our group of 5 had the tasting menu and were delighted. I've dined at Charlie Trotter, Citronelle, French Laundry, Daniel, etc, etc, and did not really expect too much from a JAX restaurant. (I know, provincialism , or worse.) However, if our experience is typical, it appears that Matthew's can hold its own.

The most WONDERFUL FOOD! Not some place to just grab a quick bite. My husband and I went there on a Saturday and Jason was our waitor. Excellent service. Everyone is dressed nice the staff is like suit and tie or business style so we felt a little out of place because we weren't dressed to go somewhere so nice but we werent treated differently. Jason bought us the amuse bouche for the night which was a tuna wrapped in avacodo which reminded me of sushi but didnt taste fishy and was extremely delicious. I had the tomato salad for the first course which was NOT what I was expecting because when I think of a salad I think of sliced tomatoes in maybe a vinagrette or italian with nice size bits of cheese but THIS was different in form but still good. My husband had the blue crab cake in like a honey sauce which was to die for! I liked that one better but both were very good. For the main course I had the salmon with smashed potatoes and veges. That was DELICIOUS. My husband had the NY strip which was everything a steak should be. Very tender. And for dessert I had the the cheesecake was melt in your mouth chew slow good and my husband had the chocolate cake with strawberry icecream. When I tasted it I was thrown off because I didnt realize it was dark chocolate but if you like dark chocolate then thats definetly the way to good. We sat at the 2 seater table in the back left hand corner closest to the bathrooms but didnt have a problem with traffic or anything. The ambience was wonderful there were candles and fresh roses on the table. We did not have reservations but when we first got there we were the only ones but it filled up very fast. The menu was slightly intimadating to me because there were a lot of choices and I'm thinking I couldnt possible eat one from each course but you don't have to. My husband and I only had 3 courses and were absolutely stuffed. We spent over $100 but it was our anniversary and the experience was worth it. We will be dining there again!

Food that tastes as good as it looks with refined service and a very good, ithough expensive, wine list. Interior is comfortable and noise level makes it a good place for conversation.
