Close to downtown, southwestern cuisine is a hit here. A daily happy hour from 3p to 7p welcomes the after-work crowd and many stay on to enjoy the restaurant's elegant presentation of fine food, cheerful service and casual and warm atmosphere. Outdoor seating is popular on balmy evenings. Appetizers include spinach con queso dip, nachos, quesadillas, or fresh homemade chips and salsa. Dinner entrees feature grilled fish, crab cakes, pecan chicken, grilled pork tenderloin and steaks. The menu's massive burritos, tacos and sandwiches are served with rustic fries.
Party of 4, 3 of which ordered tacos (hard} all of which had cold meat in them. Runner took them back to the chef for fixin and promptly returned with soggy microwaved tacos. At $ 8.00 per serving for 3 is way overpriced and greatly overpriced when they are soggy microved not good eats. will rate food, price,& chef with O stars but service and atmosphere with 4 1/2 stars.
I've been to Mossfire several times and I've yet to be impressed. Now don't get me wrong -- the atmosphere is interesting, the wait staff is attentive enough and the prices are fair. Everything is alright but the food. I can't figure out what they're supposed to be. Mexican Not really. Italian? Sorta. American? Kinda. It's a taste combination that just doesn't work, even though I've tired their burritos several times. I suppose that their mixed drinks are legendary, but as I don't drink, I can't tell you.
Appetizers were good, however, entrees were just ok. Dining room was hot and service was not anything to write home about. One in party ordered the blueberry martini and it was awful! The waitress saw the full glass sitting there and never asked how it was or why the customer wasn't drinking it.
Also, they had a special on wahoo. The 3 people in our party who ordered it all got sick that night!
We will not go back.
EVERYTHING is so wonderful and I am super picky! The service, quality of food, taste is superb, the price, atmosphere, the drinks! I am the biggest fan of Mossfire! Best southwest in Jacksonville or anywhere.
I have been going there for years and can say I have never had a bad meal or bad service .Friday nights they are VERY busy..But I have had consistently good service ...Great bar upstairs with outdoor seating as well
Tortilla soup served luke-warm (literally), had to have the waiter re-heat (in the microwave oven), my dining partner said his meal was no better. Not a good value and not worth the wait on a Friday night. Better in my opinion - walk next door to Dona Marias (Mexican food).
Mossfire is a great local's place. Even if you aren't a local, the staff will treat you like you are. The food is excellent, although some might find the menu slightly limited. However, the specials never disappoint. They have a great selection of Tequilas. The atmosphere is great for a dinner with friends or a quiet evening for two. The upper floor of the restaurant is more upbeat with a great bar, couches and tables. There is often live entertainment upstairs, so it can be louder than the first floor. Many people gather on the outside deck for happy hour. The desserts always look fabulous, but I never have room! The prices are great. I can't say enough about this restaurant or the staff. Try it!
