Visited recently while on vacation. I used to work across the street, until taking a job in another state, and came in for lunch multiple times a week for great fish sandwich specials and tuna kabobs. Whenever I am back in town, I come in for what USED TO BE a great seafood experience. Now, I can only say the experience is average. I visited 3x in the same week this July 2011. The first two visits were great with the exception that prices have noticeably skyrocketed since my last visit in Dec 2010. Rock shrimp is a great addition to the menu and was cooked perfectly when I had it both times. My third visit this week was pretty awful. On Jul 9, I came in and placed my order just after 4pm for 2 grouper platters, 1 broiled, 1 grilled. 30 minutes later, I still had not received my food. It wasn't even that busy! By the time I had lost patience and got up to go to find out what was taking so long, the woman at the counter was bringing it out to me. She was aware that my food was late without me having to fire off angry questions and apologized while giving me the excuse that they had a new cook. Well let me tell you about the new cook... he's not that good. My grilled grouper was WAY OVERCOOKED and dry. This should not have even left the kitchen. I had to smear remoulade mayo over it for it to be edible. The only reason that I didn't send it back was for fear that it would take ANOTHER 30 minutes to get another piece of fish. In contrast, my girlfriend said that the broiled grouper was cooked very well. I don't understand. It doesn't take but a few minutes to grill grouper, but the broiled grouper was right?!?! Hull's used to be my favorite place to get great seafood but now I have to say that for the experience and prices, I can do better elsewhere.
The food is excellent I must say... Hats off to the chef. The service, however, is lowsy. The counter servers (even over the phone) are curt, short-tempered and impatient. If they don't like this type of work, get better skills and do something else! The customer is not responsbile for them waking up on the wrong side of the bed every day!!!!
Freshest Seafood at Great Prices!!! Nice place to stop on the way home from the beach. The staff are friendly, and helpful. They are ALWAYS busy. Which goes to prove they must be good. You can also sit outside on the walkway, and out back. That a LOT of people dont even getto see. This is a GEM in disguise!!! GO THERE and try their food! You'll be back for more.
We decided to try the restuarant after many purchases in the market there. We were slightly disappointed. With the cost involved I would have hoped for hot food and not having to ask for all the necessary condiments that generally go with a meal of seafood. While a no frills eating establishment, the prices will shock you. The young lady working the counter could not have been more unfriendly with her intermittent sighs when we and the people ahead of us asked questions. While we assumed she knew the menu, upon receipt of food it was obviousy she did not. When I asked for the manager, I was pointed towards a greasy cook who didn;t seem to be concerned with the complaint. He stated the food is hot and freah when plated....period end. No apology nothing. I may or may not try again, but definately will not spend the huge platter prices, maybe try a sandwich and avoid the soggy fries.
This is our go to place for quick and easy seafood now that B&B is no more. Not quite the same batter you'd expect on the fish and chips, but probably healthier and still very tasty. Excellent hush puppies and the veggie sides are steamed just right. I'd prefer a malty-ier malt vinegar on the table instead of Heinz.
