Took my friend there for her birthday and we had a great time. the food was outstanding and the service the same. We always enjoy dining at this restaurant. Keep in mind we drive 45 minutes approximately to get there and there are many other places to eat along the way. The food is fresh and you can custom order anything you want.
Stay away! The atmosphere was nice, but I'm not sure which was worse: the food or the service. Mexican food??? The steak has a distinguished terriyaki flavor which was extremely disgusting. We are used to real Mexican food and to put this restaurants beans and steak together in a corn tortilla was a horrible mix of flavors. My fiance was choking his food back. I returned mine. I am pregnant and pretty much eat anything. This was not good. The steak nachos weren't even good. How can you mess up nachos? The service was horrible. We asked the server for a sample of mole sauce to help us decide what entree we wanted to order. The waiter came about every 20 min. and was not focused on us. We went about 1/3 of the whole visit without drinks. Refills were scarce. The waiter came two times after we asked for the sample of the mole sauce without it. We told him we just wanted to order...it was ridiculous. The restaurant was not even close to being busy and I don't wonder why. The mole sauce came out with our entree for some reason and we tested it. It was dark and tasted like bitter chocolate and very little spice. Nasty!!! I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone. I will never go back!
The whole rustic Mexican theme seems a little worn out to me at this point, (there's only a bazillion other resturaunts here in FL with the same idea) but the newly redecorated Maria Bonita is one of the nicer ones with a LOT of beautiful tile. Although this is certainly a casual, family type restaurant, it somehow seems just a tick up the scale compared to most of the other local Mexican resturaunts. 'Probably just the nice surroundings.
Service seems to be OK and the food, although pretty much just standard Mexican fare, is very good with decent prices.
I love that they also have some cuban food to offer so they menu is never boring, I'm also picky with my chips & salsa, they MUST be fresh. I love their queso fundido & chorizo (melted cheese & sausage), the wait if average & the staff is always nice
