Zaharias Restaurant & Lounge
Since 1987, Zaharias Restaurant has been one of St. Augustine, FLac2s premier family restaurants. We serve full breakfast, lunch and dinner menus featuring Mediterranean flavors and fresh ingredients including locally caught seafood. We also feature a full service bar and offer service with a smile and the warm, personal touch that makes all the difference.
The majority of the food is not Greek and the Greek food is not authentic. As I went often to Greece on vacation I can do it better at home. I would like that they learn how to make good zatziki.
We couldn't be disappointed as we didn't have big expectations. The food was o.k., not great but also not bad. The best greek try is spanakotyropita, otherwise grilled fish or steaks are also to recommend.
The outside place looks fine (at weekends with live music) but the inside needs urgently renovation. Furthermore the restaurant is always cold. You have to bring a jacket.
When my family arrived we had to wait for almost 15 minutes even thought it wasn't busy. We were finally seated and then it took someone 10 minutes for a waitress to come greet us. After we ordered our appetizers we didn't see her our our drinks and when she finally came back with it our food wasn't even hot. So she then placed our dinner order in and by the time that came back it was 45 minutes later and we requested to have our food to go because by that time we were very disgusted by the service especially since we saw at least three other tables that came in long after we did get their dinner before us. It's very sad to see that places like this still exist in this day and age.
Absolutely first class steaks and service. My NY strip was perfectly seasoned, mouth-watering, and a perfect medium-rare. The ambiance, the drinks, the food... all Excellent! Would recommend to ANYONE anytime. cant wait for vacation again this year.
I was there in 1993, so granted it's been a while, but I have yet to find a greek restaurant that serves food which is as good as the food I ate when I was at Zaharias. I really need to go back sometime! :-)
