Was pretty disappointed in this place over the holidays. I took my family there who came in from out of town. Hadn't been there in a year. The staple starches on the menu were grits and potatoes. The waiter came back to take our order and after placing my order he told us they were out of the grits and potatoes. It was 5:30p. He said they would substitute black beans and rice. The dish came out with plain black beans warmed from a can. No rice. No spices. No joke. Right now, I have no intention of ever returning to that restaurant.
Nice place for a good meal. Outside balcony dining overlooking the square and the Bridge of Lions on the waterfront is hard to beat. They have a nice list of their own beers made on the premise. What's not to like??
This place never dissappoints me. The seafood is wonderful. The Ahi sticks app is my favorite. Their home made root beer is excellent. Get their frequent flyer card and you don't have to wait for a table. ;-)
Their servers are generally young and very helpful.
This place has a rather expensive menu and the food is nothing exceptional. Fried Sushi appetizer was heavy and tasteless. Entree's were both pasta specials and were okay, but the quantity was small. Pasta's cheap, it should be plentiful.
Where the Ale works does shine is it's microbrews. They are not inexpensive, but they are very good. I had the red ale and it was wonderful.
Tourist trap and waaaaaaay overpriced.
In addition to that I ordered a Bloody Mary and it came in a wine glass. I've never had a Bloody Mary anywhere that wasn't served in a tall glass.
My advice, stay away (I live in Saint Augustine and know what you should get there).
Who knew a grilled chicken sandwich (I ate only the chicken--didn't touch the fries or sauce) could create so much gas? It was a bit rubbery, but I never expected so much wind. How do they do that? Also, the waiter said she'd prepare separate checks, but didn't. Typically annoying Gordon Biersch experience; had I known it was part of that chain I never would've gone.
Just a beer joint that sells upscale food. Unless you are a beer aficionado, there is nothing to get excited about. Choices for seating are the noisy interior dining room or outside on the terrace with a view of the bay. Menu was bi-polar as if the owners couldn't decide whether to be a bar or a restaurant.
