As General Manager, it is my pleasure to welcome you and to share a little of our philosophy. It has been my vision to create an experience inside the restaurant to match the fabulous view outside; no small feat, since we are up against Mother Nature at Her finest. The answer was to keep things as uncomplicated as possible. Well-cooked food from fresh ingredients are excellently prepared, simply presented, and well served. The beachfront building is elegant; there are tablecloths, yet it's not stuffy. Clean, bright decor is designed to enhance the view. Most important of all, the staff is talented, knowledgeable, pleasant, and friendly. There are very few truly oceanfront restaurants left in Northeast Florida. We work very hard on all aspects of our business so that you, our customers, can continue to enjoy us and the great location we occupy. Thank you. I am looking forward to the pleasureof meeting you. I have only eaten here for brunch, but it's a special occasion. Good value for the money, and a nice relaxing start to a fun day in St. Augustine. I almost always spot dolphins while I'm there, since you can see the ocean from all tables. There is an outdoor terrace for nice weather. Custom omelets and eggs benedict, fresh crab legs, and free-flowing champaign are the highlights.
It has a very nice view... the beach is right on the other side of the dune & the ocean is right there. The only 1 I could find... Sure there were a number on the inlets but not too many right of the ocean/beach so I think a nice location for lunch in the day time when u can see the waves, white sand & gulls flying. The food was decent, nice selection of wines (not hugh but decent/nice wines), the bread was freshly baked and tasty... something like pumpernickel. They don't have many fresh fish to choose from... only about 3 but the 1 I had tasted fresh and was cooked fine. I do feel they should have included a side salad for the price though. The staff was friendly and I got good service but it was slow (not many customers) when I was there. The building has many windows and as is typical on barrier islands (right on the beach), it's a wood structure, but is was clean & well maintained... exactly like you see on the pics on their website. Not sure if I'd return since it was pricey for lunch & for what you get (eg. no side salad). Certainly I could find better value w.o. the view & take a walk on the beach afterwards, but there is something to be said for dinning right on the dunes. I think it was a worth visit for lunch.
I only gave the Reef 3 stars because the atmosphere and service were excellent, but the food was mediocre at best. My date and I both had fresh fish which had very little flavor even with sauce. It was served with some unmemorable type of rice and crunchy white asparagus. I did think the bread was excellent though!
I love the Reef I have never had bad service and the food has always been wonderful. Last time I was there I got the Ahi Tuna appetizer with ginger dipping sauce and it was Fantastic! I also enjoyed the Seafood Pasta, wonderful large portion, noodles cooked to perfection and the pasta was stuffed with all kinds of seafood. The person I was with got a chicken dish that they enjoyed a lot. Every table has an ocean view and this place is very romantic for dinner and casual for lunch. The lunch menu has great choices and nice smaller proportions, with some lighter choices. I recommend this place to everyone, you will not be disappointed!
The service was terrible. They sat us at a dirty table which my husband had to ask to have wiped down because I guess they couldn't see the gross black grime. We sat outside by the ocean. Except you couldn't really SEE the ocean due to the overgrown shrubbery. The food was average, not terrible but for the prices it was not worth it. No salad and bad, bad bread. I was disappointed because I thought it would be better.
