Cap's on the Water, St Augustine

Be care full very unsafe place. Yearly building done without permits or inspections. Bathrooms, bar additions, propane lines. Very unsafe place let alone drain pipes just letting coke syrup out to the beautiful intercoastal. Dont eat here, owners should improve place to code with permits! Also not let soda machine drain into intercoastal..

ate there on 6-26-2011, got a seat outside, it was beautiful, we ate about 25 feet from the water, food was great, everything was great. almost didn't go. we were just riding around looking up past vilano beach and used gps to see that there was only 2 restaurants in that area, the reef and caps on the water, we past reef and was about to turn around and saw a sign for caps, we drove down the road and pulled in there, best move we made. i had the crusted flounder, best flounder i have ever had. we would go there again if we come back.

Cap's is one of my favorite restaurants in St. Augustine, the ambience is just great. As most restaurants are overrated in St. Augustine, you will get here the most for your money but you should ask waiters what they would recommend (hoping they will be honest) as the reviews for the food are mixed. We have some terrific dishes and some were just so-so

We were meeting guests from out of town. We had a party of 12. One of which was a 10 year old boy. We were informed that children were not allowed to sit in the dining room. Our options were to sit outside (it was freezing) or under an outdoor tent with heaters. I am sure gas heaters, around children, is a better option than a possible spilled beverage. Brian met us at the door and informed us that he was given orders by the owner not to sit childern there. The dining room was newly redecorated and children were not welcome. He even went on to say that the owner would kill him if he allowed it. We were not amused. It what establishment is this acceptable? I am not even sure if it is legal. The food was just OK but we will NEVER return and we will advise all of our Jacksonville friends to stay away also. They should be ashamed.

I grew up in Florida and have eaten at more fish joints than I can possibly remember and this place is better than all of them. Eating dinner riverside, under the huge Florida oaks covered in moss is amazing in it self. But the food is just as superb. The oysters on the half shell were clean and grit free and the trigger fish dinner was the best fish meal I can ever remember having. The service was also excellent and the prices were reasonable. I recommend this place to everyone.

Best seafood in St Augustine. Great fish tacos, and a sunset view, that is unmatched

Great location. Service is good. A bit overpriced for the quality of food offered. Lunch is your best bet.

I first got aquainted with this resteraunt working for a friend who told me about it. After my first visit I was hooked, my favorite the Gator Tail appetizer with Citrus Sauce. Now I go as often as I can. I have introduced my whole family and friends to this resteraunt and they all agree. It is the best. The atmosphere, the food, the location, you can't beat it.

what an awesome atmosphere - great staff and amazing food - the oyster bar is especially cool. i live in st augustine AND i'm a server in a local restaurant, so i feel particularly qualified to review area restaurants and this one is a big thumbs up. i bring all my out of town guests there because it has real old florida character.
