Brett's Waterway Cafe
Located at the foot of Center Street at the Fernandina Harbor Marina, elegant Brett's Waterway Cafe is a local favorite, being the only restaurant with a view of the Intra coastal Waterway. Daily lunch and dinner specials are offered and the menu features a wide variety of chicken, beef and a selection of Florida fresh seafood. Thursday through Saturday, a pianist entertains and the restaurant has a full bar offering beer, wine and cocktails. Casual resort wear is the preferred dress code.
As someone that grew up fishing on a pier next to this place, I was excited about the chance to visit it with my family following Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, we left very disappointed and offended at our service, or lack thereof, along with the feeling that we were not welcome there.
Although the place was not packed with people, we were left without service for nearly 20 minutes and actually heard a patron entering the establishment use the N word referring to our group as she entered. While that may not be the fault of the establishment, they surely didn t do anything to make us feel any more welcomed.
Even when I went inside to say that we felt abandoned at our table and were leaving, the general attitude was Okay, have a good evening as if it really didn t matter to them.
Based on this experience, I can t help but encourage others to seek other places to dine; particularly if you re a shade darker than the fine boats docked at the pier. :-)
This place has really gone down hill. The owners are in some sort of financial bind with their house in foreclosure so perhaps this is part of the issue? All I know for sure is that the food was tasteless and the quality of food seemed to be lacking. The prices seemed higher than the last time I ate here too, but I cannot be sure. Bottom line is that it wasn't worth the price for the poor tasting and quality of food. I won't go back for a long time, if ever.
They changed their menu. I had crab cakes and they were overdone and tasted like they came from a can. My wife had salmon and it still had the skin on it and tasted fishy. We ate there last year and it was wonder but tonight 2.17.10 it was not good. I like grits but they overdo it and try to make people like it.....go back to old menu and get a new chef...
OMG!!! Brett's has the most delicious muffins. I ordered the infamous Shrimp n Grits, and my friend ordered the Salmon. The S&G were amazingly tasteful. My friend kept excitingly going on about the salmon, so I tried it against my will (salmon is not my thing), but that's the ONLY salmon I've had and begged for more! After tasting that I became open to salmon, but NONE has compared to Brett's. I was so good and addictive; we went back the next day just to experience that Heaven on Earth ambience and taste. That day we had Manhattan Chowder, Crab n Artichoke Dip, and more....you guessed it SALMON!!! Oh, and the service was really great!! Thanks to the entire staff and the friendly locals who recommended it. The Island is just wonderful!!!
Venue offers tremendous vistas of the intercoastal and surrounding barrier islands. Food is fair and wine list is basic and limited. Great place to have a beer on the back porch and enjoy sunset in a rocking chair- then go enjoy dinner somewhere else.
OUTSTANDING! Brett's was by far the best meal of our 5 day trip. Service was exceptional, food was perfectly portioned and priced appropriately. Great view, great atmosphere. The seafood quiche was outstanding and the macadamia nut pie with ice cream ended a great meal on a sweet note. Wish I was staying in Amelia to visit there more - St. Augustine needs a Brett's!
Great location, food is well prepared and really delicious, staff is cordial, but portion size should be larger and the prices of meals are inflated.
This could be an excellent restaurant that people would come to more if it aimed its prices at a local level more than the tourists.
also it closes in mid-day for a couple of ours--this causes problems if you don't know it. It would be better to stay open and have a very limited menu.
For me it remains a special occasion restaurant and I wish it weren't.
