My first last and only time you'll ever catch me at El Toreos was aweful. First walking in their was a group of large outdoor cockroaches. I could look past this. Its South Georgia their everywhere...but then shortly after my meal arrived three indoor cockroaches crawled up on our table and I lost my appetite. Management shrugged it off and didn't even offer to refund my meal which I could no longer eat.
For years, El Toreo has been our favorite Mexican restaurant and we have recommended it many times and taken others there to eat. It has always been far better than any other mexican restaurant-the quality of their products always good. Until tonight. We have never been so disappointed. Bad can't describe the food. Awful; maybe. The beef was a lower quality-more like dog food grade. The burrito had to be cut with a knife. Even the chips were bad. We thought they were stale until we asked for more, and they were just as bad. The food was so different we could tell by the smell as soon as the waiter set it on the table. We've all felt sick to our stomachs and have been begging for something to get the bad taste out of our mouths. Shame on you for lowering the quality of your food!!! As I told the young lady at the counter: we'd have preferred you go up on the prices than lower the quality of the food. We were totally shocked and very, very disappointed. El Toreo just went from being our favorite restaurant to one we'll probably never go to again.
When we first moved to Valdosta, this was our go-to place. Now it is overpriced and very noisy. There are a lot of college kids at night and conversation is difficult to have. The television is also usually too loud. If you are looking for a quiet family atmosphere, this is not the place for you!
Worst Mexican restuarant I have ever been to. The lettuce was brown, the cheese dip was cold, not to mention most of our food. The staff was rude. The margaritas were the worst I have ever had. The food was PLAIN!!!!
Let me say first that I dined with my husband and 2 children for dinner on a weekday fairly early. Only a few people were there so that part was great. The salsa was watery and generally tasteless, but quite spicy. The chips were just ok. The kids had a quesadilla, which can't really be messed up and was actually pretty good, but the rice was completely bland despite the perfect consistency for mexican/spanish style rice...a shame really. We wanted to try the chorizo/queso dip, a favorite at other restaurants; it wasn't a dip at all, just a hunk of cheese super heated to melt and some chorizo thrown on top. As it began to cool it solidified back into a hunk of cheese. The food was super oily and the ground beef was subpar to Taco Bell in my opinion. The tamale had maybe a forkful of meat and the rest was a huge hunk of masa corn. The only flavor to any of the food was spice. Seems to me they hid behind the heat on everything. The beans tasted canned and the portion size on the special was laughable, MAYBE half the normal portion. Overall the experience was awful, the food was awful, the service was good but it wasn't busy either. All told, we will never go in again.
There are several other places in town and I would highly recommend trying them out and saving your stomach from El Toreo. We haven't been to all the others yet, but we keep trying new places!
