Blackbeard's Restaurant, Jekyll Island

June 24,2011 The Blackbeard restaurant is no more. The new Restaurant Finns is there now and is GREAT! After eating there I talked to the waiter and asked about the Blackbeard restaurant and was informed that they no longer in business and Finns is there now. I have to give it to Finns, the service the food the atmosphere or avians all was great. The food was great tasty,fresh and flavorful, the prices for the fresh seafood are not bad at all. This place has the potential to be awesome. But the staff needs to care about what they do and not just go thru the motions. Maybe put the CS back into customer service would be a start. I believe this is a state owner property, change and make us believers in the product.

On 9-5-09 we read all the reviews and were skittish about trying it. But it was one of the best meals we had on the island. The staff was very professional and friendly. We had 11 people in our group and was seated in a short time as crowded as it was.The food was readily available. And it tasted like it was supposed to taste. The crab legs were very good.( I think me and my brother ate about 10lbs together.) Which we found out that it was under new management. So give it a try we liked it. It was a little pricey but it was fresh seafood so really that is the typical price for seafood.

About the only good thing about this restaurant was the atmostphere. They have a deck overlooking the beach. Also, have big windows so you can have a great view from the inside. We chose to sit on the inside and had a table right next to the window. There was a man who sang love songs and played the guitar which was a nice touch. I ordered the shrimp platter and my boyfriend ordered the grilled chicken. The chicken was very dry and the shrimp had no flavor whatsoever. All the food was rather bland and was definitely not worth the outrageous prices. About the only reason you would want to go to this restaurant is for the view. If you are looking for good seafood, this is not the place to go.

My family ate there while at Jeykll Island for Labor Day weekend. We went there at lunchtime and were pretty much the first customers there. Our waiter started out very friendly but in the end, he never came back to our table for more drinks, he never asked if we would like dessert and was pretty much rude. Upon entering the restaurant we were given lunch menus, but no where on the menu did it say that an 18% gratuity would be charged on parties of 8 or more. We were shocked when we each received our checks and saw that each of the three checks had been charged this 18% gratuity. None of us felt that the waiter deserved that much of a tip and when we tried to argue that fact, we were told by the manager on duty that its a law in Georgia to charge a gratuity. That was not the problem but the waiter not being deserving of the tip was the problem. I will say that the food was very good, not much food for the money. I dont think I will be visiting Blackbeards again when I make my annual trip to Jekyll Island for Labor day.
