This restaurant is possibly the worst I have ever attended. Fine cuisine should not include hushpuppy, possibly as a side dish for the kids menu, but not integrated into the meal. Did I say integrated? I mean slapped on the side to make us feel full after a truly awful entree.
The first year we ate there it was good enough that we ate there twice in 3 nights.
We went back a couple years later and turned around and walked out. It didn't even look clean to us. We weren't going to gamble on the food. I wonder if there were new owners
About the only good thing about this restaurant was the atmostphere. They have a deck overlooking the beach. Also, have big windows so you can have a great view from the inside. We chose to sit on the inside and had a table right next to the window. There was a man who sang love songs and played the guitar which was a nice touch.
I ordered the shrimp platter and my boyfriend ordered the grilled chicken. The chicken was very dry and the shrimp had no flavor whatsoever. All the food was rather bland and was definitely not worth the outrageous prices.
About the only reason you would want to go to this restaurant is for the view. If you are looking for good seafood, this is not the place to go.
This restaurant was a huge waste of time and money. It is peak season and the outdoor dining area wasn't even open. We had to wait for two hours for our food, and when it arrived, my order was wrong. There were no crayons for my children to color with during the wait. The manager never came over to apologize, or offer to remove any of the charges. The poor waitress kept apologizing and offered to bring us free desserts. The hostess wasn't even at the desk when we walked out to ask us about our meal. The restaurant wasn't even crowded. There was no excuse for such poor service. I will never dine in this establishment again.
The entire experience started out bad. It was pouring down rain, so we called at noon from the parking lot to make sure the restaurant was open. We were told that the restaurant would open at 5:30. The sign in front of the restaurant said open for breakfast and lunch! We decided to wait for the rain to subside before looking for another restaurant. Meanwhile, we saw other people going in, so we called again. We learned that they were indeed open, so we went in. We had to wait for a table even though the restaurant had just opened for lunch and there were empty tables. The meal started out fine, salad was excellent. However, we attempted to order half a carafe of wine from the menu and the waiter told us that they only served bottles and glasses. He was unable to explain why carafes and half carafes were offered on the menu. My shrimp dish was overcooked as was the seafood platter my wife ordered. Our waiter did not check on us, we had to ask the busboy for refills on our water. All in all, this was perhaps the worst restaurant we've ever eaten at.
This was our first time at Blackbeard's. The decor and location were really nice. It's right on the ocean and there's an outside deck area where people can stand and watch the surf while they wait to be seated. They didn't seem overly crowded, but we waited for an hour to be seated. They had a whole room of tables and chairs available that several groups took upon themselves to go into and sit down. The hostess told them they could sit there and get appetizers, but they couldn't get meals in there. Doesn't make sense to me, but...whatever.
Even though it was on the beach/ocean, I don't recall seeing any outdoor seating. Maybe they get too much wind and sand for outdoor seating.
Food price was above average in my opinion. Quality was okay, but not as good as the restaurants we frequent at home in Beaufort, SC. Crab legs were on the small side and appeared to have soaked too long because they didn't break apart and come out as nice as usual. I had rice as a side and it was pretty good. My husband had a baked potato that was overdone.
I'd say we would probably give this place a second chance in the future, but we'll try the other restaurants in the area first before coming back to this one.
We had stopped at Blackbeard's for lunch on July 3, 2007, on recommendation of a friend, and we loved it. Great service, great food, great value.
But then we decided to try a supper there the same night (about 7 hours later). First, we had a wait of about 1 1/4 hours, but the food, we knew, would be worth it. But when we finally got to a table, many problems occurred. First, we had the same waitress (Terry) as we had had all those hours ago, and she was exhausted and overworked. It took forever to get our food, no one thought to time it though. When Terry took food to the table across from us, removed the lids, placed them in front of people, we heard them say it was not their food. It was ours, and by the time it made it to our table, it was barely lukewarm. In fact, my husband's baked potato was closer to cold than to warm. He couldn't even eat it (the butter wouldn't melt on it, and the sour cream was watery from being kept warm), but he did eat his salad (which had come before the meal, and it was fine). My meal was warm, not hot by any stretch of the imagination. It was like it'd been sitting way too long waiting for Terry to have time for us. So it didn't take long to eat what was edible, then we waited and waited and waited and waited for our bill. A couple of interesting items: He ordered a flounder plate and got 2 rather small pieces of flounder(much less than he had at lunchtime when he ordered the same thing for half the price). I ordered a seafood sample type thingy (same nearly $20 as his) that had an enormous piece of flounder, 3 or 4 scallops, and 3 or 4 shrimp. It was obvious that the flounder on my dish was meant for his dish.
Oh yes,and one more interesting point: the guy across the way who had gotten our food to start with, got his bill for all his food, but he never got his food (his family got theirs though). Don't think I'll go back unless it is for lunch.
