My husband and I stopped there for dinner on our way back to Canada and the place was busy. The service was very, very slow and we waited too long for our food. When the manager brought the food he apologized and we thought oh well. When it was time to pay the bill, the waitress said that it was free because of the wait. So we think that the manger was trying to make amends which he certainly did. He didn't have to do that and we appreciated it. Highly recommend the place and the food was really good.
I was driving to SC for Christmas but got a late start from Orlando and was getting tired. Decide to get a room for the night and hit the road in the morning. Anyway, what a great little restaurant. Being from FL, it's name is appropriate as it could fit on any beach front property in FL, whether St. Pete Beach, Daytona, Cocoa, etc. It's very casual friendly atmosphere. Island Grill & Bar is an appropriate name. Everything from Quesadillas to shrimp/fish baskets, raw or steamed oysters on the half shell to ribeye steak and salads. It's a great sports bar and grill and it seems everyone kind of knows each other (except for us out of towners, but what a friendly group). Next time I make a trip to/from SC from FL, stopping here will make he trip worthwhile! The service was not slow and the drinks were great (plus you're allowed to get a drink to go and take it home - how cool). I've never heard of that, so I got an extra and took it back to the room. Merry Christmas!
So I read the reviews and was really worried about eating here. Since there isn't much in the way of restaurants near the hotels on this exit we decided to chance it. I guess they have made some changes at this restaurant because we didn't feel intimidated or unsafe at all. The server, Amber, was very polite and the service was great! I had the fried fish and I have to say, it was really good!!! My husband enjoyed the ribeye. The atmosphere was fun because they had some kind of game going on at the time. We plan to stop back by on our way home from Florida.
The place is nothing but a police stakeout. The owner and or people who work there will let you drink all you want and after you leave they will call the great rent a cop PORT WENTWORTH PD. and have you arrested for DUI. I can't count how many people I know this happened to including myself. Getting pulled over for driving a bit to slow in the left lane, this happens everyday but no one else gets pulled over for it. The owner gets kickbacks from the police department. So if you go there I would advise not to drink anything. P.S. Port Wentworth cops are sorry!!!
If you want good food eat here*****Atmosphere is ok, but you can't eat atmosphere anyway. Clean and great tasting food. We've been here only two weeks and ate at The Shell House, OVER prices for the taste. This place the delivers that goods at a reasonable price. Y U M whether you have the fish or the steak. Nobody makes a steak as good as I do and it WAS as good as mine. Will return soon.
I really don't understand some of the comments i'm reading about DIG...it's a great environment, loads of good food, and a great place for bikers to roost for a sandwich and brew. The outdoor dining patio, complete with bar and plasma TV is a great area to hang out when the skeeters aren't so bad!
My favorite is the blackened-grilled grouper sandwich and the batter-dipped potato chips.
It's always busy, so they must be doin' alot better thank the folks below indicate. If it's crowded, go to the bar, grab a draft and chill out!
This place is TERRIBLE!!!!!! Can't stand it because of the owner and the way he treats some of the employees, and also the food is not that great! All the owner cares about is his self and his money! I understand needing money but treat your employees with respect and how you should in a business like this! Also, serves isn't all that great! I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone!
We use to go there alot about a year ago when they had a bouncer named Cajun he took care of us and we always felt safe when he was there my wife won:t go back because hes not there anymore. The food was decent and the service up and down. My wife and her friends wish they knew where Cajun went for they would follow.......
OK place. The service is usually very lackluster and can be very slow at times but most of the food is pretty good. I loved the wings, although the pizza was disgusting. Sandwiches are also usually pretty good and they have a ton of potato options that most places don't have. Usually very busy and can take a while to get a seat (not to mention a parking spot). Also, they don't serve bread, the previous poster must have confused this place with another one.
