This family-friendly joint is the oldest seafood restaurant on Tybee Island, and one of the favorites among locals and visitors alike. Casual and fun, loyal patrons arrive in Sunday duds, beach clothes or even less. A full range of seafood specialties is available, but the clear house favorite is the beer-battered shrimp. Get your oysters on the half shell raw or steamed, and do not neglect to check out the weekly specials. A full bar is on hand for the adults, and a kids menu provides perfect portions for the little ones.
service was abscent.... had to go to bar to get drinks when ordered, food was delivered and service was gone... no condiments no follow up. steamed veg's were cold and raw. family of four with tip was over one hundred. I'm a local of three years, I won't be back as it had the worst yet in Sav.
I recently stayed on Tybee Island for a brief vacation. I am a seafood lover and was wonderfully surprised by MacElwees Restaurant. The food, atmosphere, and service were nothing short of fantastic!! The breading on the shrimp was light and delicate. The quaint surroundings inside and view of the water from my table were outstanding. Last but not least was the prompt and knowledgeable service I received. My server, Aubry I believe,
was so helpfull. Truly a great place for family dinning as well. Kudos to the manager and staff, keep up the good work !! I can't wait for my next trip back.
the food was good BUT the service was terrible and prices were high end. We were there in feb and a cool spell came thru, we were told to wait on the outside porch with a 45 min wait. burrrr cold, we asked for 2 tables so we could be seated sooner. there were 6 of us and there were tables empty but the host told us she did not want to back up her kitchen. when we complained it was cold outside she said yes it is and walked away,we were not happy and it was our anniversary. we still ended up being split up after waiting 55 min so think about it before ya go also they do not take rsvp's. when we did get our food it was good but we had NO drinks(booze) and our bill was over$160, no dessert,no appitizer just the meal and 2 of them were our grandchildren. soooo pretty pricey.
Like anyone else, I am a fan of great customer service and food when I dine out. While on vacation, I came across this restaurant up the street from the resort I was staying in (Ocean Plaza) and it had great atmosphere just a hop, skip, and a jump away from the beach. Excellent food, the drinks were potent, and the customer service was top notch. If you happen to be in Tybee Island on vacation, getaway, etc. this is a must visit place to dine.
This is definitely a good place for a family with children. Our server was Aubrey and she was excellent. The owner checked on us several times, which I thought was extremely nice. The hostess went out of her way to seat us immediately. Very convenient location. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
We arrived on Tybee Island late in the evening and asked at the hotel where to eat. Without hesitation they said MacElwees and we were not disappointed. The food was superb, the service was excellent and the prices were very reasonable for a resort town. If you are on Tybee you have to try this place - and the home made Key Lime pie is to die for!
We waited a half hour to be served our beverages. After almost an hour, I asked what was causing the delay and the staff acted surly and completely unapologetic. Finally the food arrived. Our table ordered a variety of dishes and I tried all of them. All tasted like previously frozen and/or amateurly prepared Red Losbter fair. Spare yourself and avoid this trap. Much better to be had nearby.
