We were in Savannah for Memorial Day weekend 2010 and decided to eat sushi on Saturday night (5/29/10). We chose the restaurant because all the reviews said it is the best sushi in town. Well they are all wrong. The sushi was horrible. When it finally came close to an hour after we ordered every single type of fish seemed close to spoiling. Not fresh and tasty—all had a fishy taste and slimy texture indicating a lack of freshness. Included in our order were eel, salmon, tuna, octopus, whitefish and more; I say this to indicate that it was not one kind of fish but rather everything on the sushi menu which tasted old/spoiling and fishy/horrible. Every single roll was rolled inside-out also which annoyed me. Our waitress came to our table literally one other time in the hour that we were there waiting. When she came by (then 35 minutes after our arrival/order and 20 minutes since we both ran out of drinks), we asked her where she had been. She made the excuse that 2 waitresses had called in sick and so it was only her and one other girl. Well, did the chefs call in sick, too? Her excuse justified the horrible attention & drink service, but not the 1 hour wait for two people’s sushi order. The restaurant wasn’t even full. The atmosphere is no good also; there is no sushi bar—even more suspicious now that I see the quality of sushi they are turning out. I read on their site or somewhere that the owners were Japanese, so I was expecting some real legitimate traditional sushi. This place tasted like the last 15 minutes of the all you can eat buffet at Ru-San’s left out in the sun for an extra 24 hours until the fish was nice and ripe. Don’t eat here. I am not writing this review out of spite but to save anyone else from the terrible experience my wife and I went through. Did I mention that the sake was luke-warm? There is more, but I have written enough. They literally failed in every category possible. Based on this abject failure to perform I cannot believe that we merely caught them on a bad night or that our experience is the outlyer. No—there is something Rotten in Seasons of Japan, and if you eat there you should expect nothing but suffering and disappointment.
Very nice restaurant with nice ambiance and really nice food at a very fair price. Good selection of dishes if you have a vegetarian in your group. Waiter went out of his way to make sure we were happy during our meal.
Our last night in Savannah, we stumbled across Seasons Asian Bistro. The atmosphere inside is amazing and extremely relaxing. The staff are really friendly and want to ensure you are completely satisfied. Unfortunately we had limited time as we had a tour to attend to shortly so we only ordered from the appetizer and sushi selection. However my husband was able to sample the locally brewed beer, I attempted Sushi for the first time and we loved the prices. This will be a must go to next time we return to Savannah, and as well to request to be seated in the traditional seating on the floor next time we are there. I can honestly say, if you go you will not be disappointed.
