Boar's Head Grill & Tavern

Description

The Boar's Head claims to be the oldest restaurant on River Street, and is located in a building that was once a cotton warehouse, like most of the buildings in the area. Exposed brick walls decorated with a collection of gold plates and hunting trophies create a cozy atmosphere. From a seat at the bar, or on the small patio, patrons can look out over River Street and the Savannah River. Kitchen specialties include crab cakes and she-crab soup, and the bar recommends Bumbo Punch, a special rum punch.

I have visited this Resturant twice, both times the food & Service were excellent. Each visit was a year apart. Yet the quality of the food or service is still the same. I sugest you visit anytime you are near Savannah.

We went there for dinner. Excellent food; great service and grits that actually taste of something other than wallpaper paste. We were four people, had four different entres, and not a mediocre one among the lot. Nicely spiced, delicious sauces, wonderful shrimp. I'll go back anytime

We were travelling from out of town and decided on this place without reading any reviews or hearing anything about it. It was AMAZING! The service was superb. Answering all of our questions we had about Savannah with a smile. They were truly genuine people. We went for lunch, had a steak sandwich and a Roast Beef sandwich Both wonderful. Cooked perfectly. The setting in the restuarant with this historical touches was so nice. We cant wait to come back to Savannah.

great steaks
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/8/09
This restaurant is one of our favorites in Savannah, the applatizers are great and the steaks are delicious. The old history of the building and wood and stonework is gorgeous. We will go back on our next trip to Savannah.

My husband and I went there for our 6th anniversary and it was wonderful! We both got steaks (he got a ribeye and I got filet mignon) and they were probably the best we have ever ordered from any restaurant! The mashed potatoes were creamy and delicious! We will definitely be back the next time we go to Savannah.

great
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/19/08
We each ordered the spinach salad topped with Gorgonzola cheese, toasted pecans, currants, sauteed onions, and a delicious balsamic vinaigrette. A great touch. The waiter kept our drinks full and was very pleasant and non-hovering. For the types of places you'll find on River Street, this one is one of the better food establishments.

My family and I took a weekend trip to Savannah last Labor Day 2007. We had planned to go deep sea fishing on Monday, Labor Day. We drove six hours from Birmingham to Savannah. Upon our arrival that Saturday, it was raining and the rain did not let up. We decided to go out to eat and was unable to locate the restaurant we initially were going to eat at, so we popped in and ate at Boar's Head Grill & Tavern. The food was excellent, the service was wonderful, and the atmosphere was lovely. Due to the rain, we canceled our deep sea fishing trip, checked out of our hotel and went back home to Birmingham on Sunday. Needless to say, we joke to this day that it was the most expensive dinner we had ever eaten and we would do it all over again just to eat at Boar's Head.
