read good reviews so decided to try it while in Savannah, but will not go there again. Our experience started with sub-par service and a forgotten drink. After a long wait, we were served out tray of oysters (we should have known after the server didn't know where they were from(hint hint). We shucked a few of them and were immediately knocked back by the smell. One actually smelled rancid; yuck!!!! The rest of the food was mediocre, definitely not worthy of a return trip. Overall, don't order steamed oysters and expect inexperienced waitstaff and slow service.
The food was excellent....especially the omelette and beignets (with chocolate sauce). The service was great as well. I will agree that it was a little warm in there, but it was middle of the day in August...so somewhat understandable. I would definitely go back.
Incredible! Service was great, food was great, walked in around 11:30 a.m. and we were immediately seated near the window. Fried Green Tomatoes-Awesome! Crawfish Etoufet (sic)-INCREDIBLE! And the dessert of Beignets (Again, sic)-Incredible! And you don't have to break the bank to eat there, my gf and I both stuffed ourselves-she had the FGT Muffuletta and it was great-for under $40. Great place.
I was very disappointed. Huey's has a good reputation, but I found the service to be poor and the food just OK. Presentation of food was uninteresting. Salad was spines of lettuce with a few leaves. Collard greens were way too salty, as was the shrimp and crabmeat au grautin. Lots of shrimp and crab, but salty and nothing but cheese on top. I sat outside and had to go to the door to ask if there was table service for the patio. A waitress finally appeared and acted as though she was doing me a favor by waiting on me. I've now tried Huey's and will not be likely to go there agian.
Water Street is chock-full of restaurants displaying fancy menus with inflated prices and smokey bars with the usual pub fare. Huey's is a lively yet comfortable place to have a very good meal at a good price. The menu is a little more New Orleans than Low Country, but the cheese grits bring it back home. A very friendly and attentive staff.
Great food, great service, great location! We were here on Memorial Day weekend, and had no trouble getting a great table at the window. Service was friendly and prompt. Relaxed atmosphere. Will definately go there again when we return to Savannah!
Hueys was a very nice place to eat at in the food was excellent. I had the Red Beans & Rice.It was bold and spicy. The view I had out the window was fabulous. Cargo ships passing not 300 ft from me and weather was great.
