This was my favorite restaraunt before the fire. Since reopening the prices have gone up, the portions have gotten smaller, and the waitress all wear little saint pauli girl outfits that make me feel like I just took my family to dinner at Hooters... If we had gone to Hooters I would have saved a little money.
I spent many years in Germany and aquired a taste for the Europen cuisine. I also learned to speak and read the german language. I used to enjoy the yeager style snitzel served there. I make my own at home many times but sometimes prefer to sit and let someone else do the cooking. I went in one day and got my meal and the sauce had been changed.ARGH! It tasted like the sauce used on sauer braten! NO GO! When I find out they have gotten it right I may go back again, until then, I will just do it my self!
Based on the savannah morning news review and because savannah does not have a german restaurant, we decided to give zum rosenhof a try. we must have been the very first customer for our waitress. in a word - terrible. we had to repeat our drink orders several times. she did not know what drinks were available, etc. several items on the menu were not available. when the food came, she forgot our salads. schnitzel was over cooked, dry and way too thin. waitress would not provide separate checks and only gave us totals - no breakdown for items we ordered. we would not return and will not recommend rosenhof. by the way, i spent over 13 years in germany and i consider german food the best.
I've been at Rosenhof only one time, but I will make it my regular eat out spot!I was born and raised in Berlin Germany and I felt like a kid in a candy store, the first time I ate there. It is by far the closest authentic German food you can find.My girlfriend never tried German food, until she went to Rosenhof with me.And she fell in love with it.I just wish I could speak German still, lol. It is a shame that I can't speak german anymore.I hope they'll stay there for a very long time!
I'd heard so much about this place and yet had never made it there to eat. So I finally eat there and Wow! The food was great, and ambiance was very nice and cozy with it's small dining room and it was definitely worth the money. Unfortunately, the day we were there, the service left a bit to be desired. But the people I went with told me that was so unusual for the place so it must have been a fluke.
Overall, I'm giving it a 4.5 out of 5.
