I knew that I was in for something special from the moment I walked in the door. We were greeted by a friendly staff that clearly intended to make the experience memorable.
Seven of us ordered the Chef's Tasting: 6 courses paired with wine. A significant part of the experience of the meal is the anticipation of what will come next, of not knowing. We were in good hands.
The taste and presentation of all the dishes were exquisite as was expected. They were creative without being overly so. The dishes complimented each other and made sense. They were technically correct; meats, pastas and vegetables were not over or under cooked. Service was exemplary. Timing in all aspects was absolutely perfect. The wine pairings were well chosen. The wine complemented the food and never stole the show.
Only a few minor problems. The order of two of the dishes could have been reversed. A rich pork belly and scallop was followed by a delicate grouper that was overpowered by the previous dish. Later, there was a tardy steak knife. If fresh flatware is not provided for each course, a small rectangular plate to set the utensils to be reused is preferred over the tablecloth.
The ambience was distinguished, but not pretentious.
The meal was priced fairly.
The lavatory held up to my high standards.
I was impressed with the staff. There were professional, genuine and worked as a team. A visit to the table by the owner was enjoyed and comfortable.
No one dish stood way above the others, nor should it have. The whole experience is what I will remember.
This was among the best dining experiences I've had.
My high expectations were met (and on a Wednesday).
