This is the place for seafood in savnnah. I love the autmosphere of dining out in the open air on the water. The food is good and like another poster said, it reminds you of taking a nice picnic. I have no complaints about this place at all!! plus you can feed the alligators in the lagoon, the children will love it!
Here's the bad thing about this place! I'm a wounded soldier stationed in Savannah and i've been invited for a weekend in Tybee by some adopt a soldier group out there. The bad news is i have to eat lunch with the people who organized the weekend this Saturday at .... you guessed it THE CRAB SHACK! I have eaten there once with my wife because a friend of mine invited us there. If you don't mind flies buzzing everywhere and cats trying to get you to feed them... or terrible service. HEY WHERE DID OUR SERVER GO? and if you like the idea of eating at a table that hasn't really been cleaned off all day and that has a big hole filled with the scraps from previous diner's, than maybe it's for you. Then again if you like the nasty food they serve there maybe you'll love the place. I don't understand how some of these people that had so many complaints still rated this place high. It's a mind boggler. I'm about to try enjoy a nice weekend but i can assure you that my lunch tomorrow at the crab shack is going to be borderline miserable. What surprised me even more is that my uncle who's a law professor was talking to me last night on the phone and i mentioned i would be eating there on Saturday and he stated how much he enjoyed tybee island and had loved the crab shack when he was there. The food there is on par with his wife's cooking so i guess i can't be to surprised. The alligator pit is lame too since there are nothing but small baby alligators.
The Crab Shack is quite a disappointment. The menu is not much better than an elaborate Hot Dog stand the seafood is sub-par. I ordered the crab cakes and was shocked to find they were exactly what I can buy in a supermarket. Absolutely terrible! Nothing on the menu has any special quality to it, it tastes like it was frozen and then heated in an oven or microwave. There are better places in Savannah and the only thing this place has going for is it's local.
I completely agree that this place is a total JOKE! Not only is it the dirtiest establishment I've ever been to (and I'm from New Jersey), but the food is absolutely horrible, even scary to look at. I could not even believe they have the nerve to serve people white wonder bread. I went there for my birthday, while I was visiting Savannah, and I couldn't have asked for a more disgusting dinner. My ribs looked like a dried piece of rubber, my Father's shrimp was cold, and my Mother's crab cakes looked like they had just been defrosted. The worst part of the night was by far, the cats that walk around and beg for your food. Do not listen to all the hype about the Crab Shack, if you eat there, you will most definitely regret it.
