The Crab Shack
By Justin, 3/19/13
This was my second visit to the Crab Shack. IT WAS TERRIBLE!!! I was first sat outside around the Tiki Torch and was getting ate up by sand gnats. After being moved to the inside area next to the bar we was served COLD food. The melted butter was starting to harden again. The sand gnats were still biting and the HORRIBLE MUSIC was playing very loud. We make comments several times to the effect the food wasn t good and never got anywhere. I would not reccomend this place to anyone.

Terrible...plain and simple. This place should be called the crap shack. The food was awful and overpriced. The cats that roamed the tables looking for scraps checked on our table more times than our server. The ribs I ordered tasted spoiled. They were not grilled or smoked, so I am assuming that they were baked and rewarmed by a microwave....not the way to cook southern bbq. My plate came with coleslaw that was okay, corn on the cob that had a funky taste, and toast......just plain toast. They did provide a packet of butter if I would like to put it on my plain, dry toast.....but I decided to pass. My wife ordered the crab legs and said they were nothing special. I m glad they had a trash can so close by....I used it for my entire plate.

Was a little disapointed . The food was bland , and for the price wasnt worth it. Maybe when more of the seafood is in season it would be better. To expensive, and no taste.

Just returned from my first visit to Tybee Island. My husband and I tried The Crab Shack for a late lunch. Can't really complain about anything. We both had the shrimp boil and could not finished it all. (We are 52 & 49). Tasted just fine to me. Loved the tables. Took several pics of their tables and plan to convert our picnic table at home with a hole. We plan to return to Tybee Island next year and will be going back to the Shack. Maybe eating outside reminded me of home-mountains of East Tennessee.

I'm not uppity at all, I wanted to preface with that since that seems to be the common defense on this discussion board. I had no problem with the decor, or the fact that it's outside and there are bugs-big deal. I do have to say that the food was mediocre at best. Given the quality of food, it was overpriced, if it happened to be good seafood, the prices would be reasonable, about 15-20 per person. The main issues with the food were rubbery shrimp, rubbery corn, rubbery sausage, and bland seasonings(some sort of knock off old-bay that wasn't very good) If I didn't know better I would say they were microwaving this stuff, based on the taste, texture, and the fact that I kept hearing what sounded suspiciously like microwave doors closing in the kitchen that I was seated near. Is it the worst food I have ever eaten? no. Is it even in the top 20 of best food I have ever eaten? again, no. It's very average food, at a high price considering the quality. The decor, and being able to eat outside overlooking the marshes is cool but hardly a reason to eat at a place with mediocre food.

Do not eat here unless you like flies, undercooked shellfish and overpriced food. This is the only place I ever ate at where they put a garbage can your table!

The Crab Shack is very very over rated and very over priced. The place smells really bad and the food is average at best. I got the lo country boil which came on a tiny paper plate. You have to peel the shimp which is not de-veined and it was really over priced. I would never return ever again. I do not recommend this place.

ALL I can say is WOW! If you have an uppity air about you....DON'T go to the Crab Shack! Don't ruin for everyone else.....please. No I'm not being paid to say this (as earlier commented about 5 stars). Yes it's messy...it's seafood. Yes the tables are dirty....it's and outdoor seating area. Yes there are flies...again outdoors. Seriously! I look forward to a trip to Tybee for the beach and the Crab Shack. It's not just a place to eat, it really is an experience. I have taken everyone I know there and all have been pleased. The seafood platter is amazing and piled high. There is so much to eat, of course it might get cold after a while. Please don't make judgements on the bad comments...try it for yourself. Just don't try it if you don't like to get your hands dirty!

I am with everyone else here. The food was overpriced and not what I expected. While the decor and set up of the Crab Shack is interesting, the food is not worth eating.
