Old Bavaria Inn, Helen

This was the worse Germany food we have experienced in the US. The food was prepared with too much salt, over cooked and just left us wanting to leave. The prices were way out of sight - much too high for such poor quality. And, we did have to pay for the water. My wife really enjoyed the wine, which of course was obtained from outside the facility. This is a nice place to stay away from...

Thought we'd try something different that our usual, boy were we dissapointed. Over priced and just not what we were looking for. My wife had a $9.00 tiny cup of delicious tomato soup and 1/2 a roast beef sandwich (just ok), I had the $19.00 Jager Schnitzel. The pork was great but I didn't care for the cabbage. We also witnessed 4 people leave because they wanted to charge them for water (it is NOT included in your meal). This was definitely NOT a $50. meal (including tip). The $6. a piece beers were the highlight of the meal but we weren't going for the beer. This will be our first and last time at this restaurant. The service was very good by the way...just not anything like we expected after reading the reviews!

This place was wonderful. We went for lunch and both had the schnitzel sandwich. Very generous portions and food quality and taste was excellent. The waitress did pick up dishes and trash from the table as we were finished with them, but I like for the table to be free of clutter so this was good for us. Very nice staff. Kid friendly.

My wife, a German, and I spent this weekend in Helen. We invited another couple to accompany us. His wife is also form Germany. After settling into our hotel, we starting looking for a place to enjoy a German Dinner. We were watching the Visitor Information Channel and after seeing an advertisement for 'Old Bavaria Inn', we decided to give it a try. Big mistake. My wife and I ordered The Swine Hocks for two. The only item on the plate worth eating was two sausages. The smoked Swine Hock was so hard I could not cut it. The meal came with what they called potato salad. I have never had anything so disgustingly bad tasting served in any restaurant. The platter also included Red Kraut and Sauerkraut. They too were horrorible tasting. The entire platter was nothing short of horrible. We complained to the owner/chef. He kept saying the meat was smoked. We know what smoked pork looks and tastes like. This was not even close. After several minutes he agreed to remove it from our bill. We will never eat there again and will not recommend this excuse for German restaurant to anyone in the future.

Ate at the Old Bavarian in Helen last night. Outstanding-great German food, fast efficient and friendly service. Owner seated us in the bar for a quick wait and then peresonally came to get us. Entertainment was also great and friendly with authentic German music.

We've had many meals at the Old Bavarian Inn and have always been pleased. The Sauerbraten is tender and fell apart with a fork. The Goulash was tasty and not too spicy. They do a cucumber salad that is wonderful. The German pretzel we had as an appetizer was large and a great compliment to the meal. The wait staff were polite and efficient. We went at a busy time and they managed to make sure we were well cared for. The waiter was very helpful with his beer suggestions and offered his advice on various menu items. A very pleasant dining experience.
