Experience some of the city's best baked goods, hearty breakfasts and gourmet sandwiches at this popular daytime dining spot. Situated alongside Freedom Park 's extensive pathways, it's the perfect place to grab a quick coffee and muffin after a morning jog. Better yet, sit down, relax and enjoy a full- service breakfast or lunch while you savor the cafe's high-quality, fresh roasted coffee and free WiFi. The menu features breakfast and brunch items all day. Standouts include the sweet potato pancakes, shrimp and grits, and curried chicken salad sandwich. Most of Highland Bakery's menu items incorporate their fine house-made breads. Don't leave without picking up some of their fabulous pastries, cookies and cupcakes to enjoy later. - Rachel Quartarone
What a great time, This was a fun establishment with a great staff. Everyone was friendly and made us feel like regulars. The coffee was good but the French toast was simply awesome. The Peanut Butter French Toast was out of this world.
Definitely one of the best breakfasts I have ever had. We ordered the Sweet Potato Pancakes, the Cowboy Benedict, and the Hoppin' Highland. Everything was a delicious departure from the ordinary. My friend and I agreed that the Sweet Potato Pancakes were probably the best pancakes we have ever had. Large portions, reasonable prices, good service by friendly staff, and good coffee too. The space is clean and bright, accented with exposed brick walls and cool art. I wish there was a place like this where I live!
I've eaten here over a dozen times and virtually everything is mediocre, with exception of their breads. The most grating aspect though is the poor level of service. To go orders won't get started for 20 mins, servers forget orders, and in restaurant food takes a long time too. Part of this may be due to an underpaid and overworked staff, but this is not the customer's problem. It's a management problem. Things need to change here. I won't go back.
Highland is as its name indicates -- a variable standard above traditional bakeries as everything is healthy, all natural whole grained and chemical free. Settled in Atlanta's newly forming Fourth Ward intown, Highland is the emerging constance of staffs-of-life found among new, young, artistic entrepreneurs looking for expressive culture outside of their newly purchased lofts and condos of the New South's urban center. You don't believe me? Think breakfast: How about stone ground grits, Ricotta Cheese Pancakes or maybe Sweet potato of the same, cheddar scrabbled eggs and a fresh juice; lunch or dinner snatches of maybe roasted chicken salad or albacore tuna salad sandwhich on grilled kaiser or sourdough with an organic condiment and fresh veggies for added stock and flavor. If anything is left for cookies, muffins, cinnamon rolls, or a variety of site-baked three and four layered traditional cakes (including my favorites: coconut and german chocolate....yuuuuuuuuum) that is on hand as well. Everything on the menu is under $7. The loaf-ing atmosphere is urbane, natural and rye. It is everything the well known national dealerships purports, but cannot achieve because of cheesy national franchising. They host business groups, cater and sweep well the bike paths that lead to their shop doors and on nice days serve your pitas outdoors where several tabled-brellas beat back the fervid sun and attendant humidity. No bun intended, Highland, which really could use some more aggressive marketing, will be, if it keeps up its offerings, the toast of the bakery-coffeeshop intown soon enough. Just give them time....
