The food and coffee isn't bad, but it's always perpetually dark inside. I realize they're shooting for a certain vibe, but I like to see what's on my table, thanks. Come for the coffee, leave with bad eyesight.
I have lived in ATL all my life and have gone here a million times, food is good, and coffee is good - but I normally have to wait forever to get service, coffee or food. The atmosphere can make up for some of that, but don't go when you are starving!
I lived in Atlanta 1992-96 while attending Oglethorpe University and Cafe Intermezzo was my absolute favorite, and has remained since. I felt like it was a delicious candlelit secret where everything and everyone seemed so fabulously chic and mysterious. The food, the people, the ambience -all perfectly sublime.
I went to Intermezzo's on a first date. I had just moved to Atlanta a few months ago and was looking for a nice local spot; I was so tired of going to Cheescake Factory or the other overrated chain restaurants in the city.
We were seated next to the kitchen, which I thought would be awful, but it turned out fine; the food was great, they have an extensive drink menu, and delectable deserts. He and I shared a slice of cheesecake and the combination of candlelight and intimate ambiance made for a very romantic setting. First dates are always nervewrecking, but the casual setting and wonderful service helped to ease the tension; it's been our best date so far.
If you're looking for a place to romance that special someone in jeans and sneakers without cleaning out your wallet, Cafe Intermezzo is the perfect place.
