Gladys Knight & Ron Winans' Chicken & Waffles

Description

This popular Midtown spot is almost as famous for its down home soul cooking as it is for the celebrity owner. The singer who made "Midnight Train to Georgia" a national hit has another hit on her hands, along with her son and partners Ron Winans and Reginald Washington. The entree menu changes daily in the casual dining room, but features such favorites as Southern fried chicken, collard greens, and of course, grits. The fresh-baked biscuits and indulgent desserts also draw loud praise. No alcohol.

I went to eat at this resturant August 21, 2011. It was great. I've never eaten chicken that I didn't need ketcup or ranch with untill I ate here! I loved the chicken and the waffle. I had the midnight train and a side order of fried green tomato's... ummm ummm good! I could wat there every day, wish we had one back home in Little Rock.

I went there this Sat 04/02/2011 with my daughter and I loved it!! I had the Midnight Train which is 3 fried wings and 1 waffle, and my daughter had the smother chicken beast w/ collard greens and corn. We then had the peach cobbler to share. The only negative is the wait time. We went aroung 3 or 3:30 and were not seated until after 5. But as soon as we placed our order the food arrived very quickly and our waitress was very nice/ I will definately go back soon. Maybe on a week night to avoid the crowd!

The food at this restaurant was very bland and under seasoned to be consided a soulfood spot. A seven dollar appetizer consist of four shrimp 1.50 for a drink refill the list goes on. DONT BELIEVE THE HYPE!! Whatever reputation they once had has truly been lost.

What can I say other than, "Why Bother". Iam so disapointed with the food. The shrimp and grits was horrible, bland and mushy and not at all good grits. I've tasted better at an all you can eat. The waffle and service was great. If i do return it will be for the waffles and nothing more. So very very disapointed.

All I can say is We will never go back, too expensive for nothing, publix fried chicken is much better, tea was bad, its way over rated, much better resturants out there two pieces of fried chicken and two sides for 14.00 is a bit much, greens were old small portions, some strange characters in there also.

What can I say about my experience. I was meeting my old classmates from Cali for brunch, people whom I haven't seen in about 30yrs. Of course we had to wait for about 40min on a Sunday (np). The problem came when our name was called and we had one guest who hadn't shown up and we conveyed this to the host. She told us that we could either be seated now and our guest could show up late and not be able to...ORDER HER MEAL... or we could wait until our guest showed and take the chance on waiting another 40min. I couldn't understand why our guest showing up late would pose a problem for them. We were seated at a booth which held 4 people and it was 3 of us so far. When our last guest finally arrived she was told by the host that she couldn't order due to her late arrival. Now she could order to go but could not eat at the table..hummm I was warned by my daughter that the Lithonia location had rude, hosts and servers. The service was so bad that they gave my daughter vouchers for free meals. I read reviews about the refills, yep it's true it will cost you $1.50 for a refill but the glasses are pretty tall. We had a nice server Iris who allowed our guest to order and eat at the table. lol The food was good but was it worth me dealing with this type of customer service, nope. The decor was nothing special, my seat had a rip in it and other than the pictures of celebs on the wall there was nothing special about the place. Oh by the way no substitutions...lol you can add to your meal but not substitute this is not Burger King....

Gladys Knight's Chicken & Waffles
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/24/10
Paul P. Chicken & Waffles is not really a "southern dish". It originated in New York and later became very popolar in Los Angeles as Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles. But nevertheless, it is yummy at Gladys Knights Chicken & Waffles!

We had an exceptional lunch of fried chicken and different sides at Knight & Winan's Peachtree location in Atlanta today. Food was outstanding, the sides very tasty, and loved the lemonade/sweet tea drink (but $1.50 for one refill does seem a bit high) Waitress was very friendly, some of the waiters weren't that smiley - but with food that good, I'll smile to myself! Would definitely eat there again, and would recommend it to others looking for delicous fried chicken. In NO WAY is it plain, bland, or less good than other chicken we have eaten. Can't WAIT to dig into my leftovers!
