This small venue plays host to local, up-and-coming acoustic acts seven nights a week. Located in the heart of Decatur, the Attic is nestled amid shops and storefronts on this busy side street. The small stage is set in the corner, across from a long bar and cabaret-style tables. Seating is limited, so come early. A small menu of light fare is available. Groups as big as the Indigo Girls have graced this stage on their way to the top, so stop by to catch a rising star.
Eddies attic Open Mic is billed as a venue for inspired new song writers. I recently attended an open mic and was wondering how the winners were picked. Could it have been drawn from a hat? One act, a couple from a by gone folk era was entertaining in a nostagic way but certainly they are far from marketable.
another of Eddie's top three was a Hootie and the Blow Fish clone and not a very good one at that. The other fellow was mediocre at best. There was some talent present though there were far too many John Mayer clones. Jack Johnson was represented also. A keyboard player showed talent and song writing capabilities and two brothers who played guitar desplayed strong lyrics and song writing skills. I was shocked that the least talented were finalist. I can only wonder who Eddie is pushing for his finals that he is stacking the deck with such boring folks. I recommend local artist to stay away from this venue and find one that really has legitimate judging for future talent.
I've seen many great concerts here. They know how to bring them in. The tickets sometimes got pricey in my opinion, but then again that's because I'm just getting on my feet. Food and ambience are forgettable, but not bad.
People actually go to listen to the music here, so the crowd is generally quiet and respectful. The listening room is smoke-free, but they have a patio and bar for those who want to smoke (or talk loudly). This is a great place to see good, local live acoustic music. The food is also good!
